Designing Confidence: Alaya Turns Self-Expression into a Purpose-Driven Brand

For Alaya, building a jewelry brand is about far more than style—it’s about helping people feel seen, confident, and connected. Inspired by her own journey of rediscovering self-worth through creativity, she’s creating pieces that carry meaning and empower individuality. As a young founder balancing school, life, and business, Alaya is learning to lead with intention and resilience, with a long-term vision of growing a platform that not only elevates her brand, but uplifts other emerging creatives along the way.

Alaya, as a teen entrepreneur with a clear sense of purpose, can you share what your mission is and what first inspired you to start building this brand?
My mission has always been to create jewelry that makes people feel seen, confident, and connected. I’ve always loved the idea that something as small as a bracelet or ring can carry meaning, memories, or motivation. I live by the phrase, “If you like it, I love it,” because I believe everyone deserves to feel empowered in their own style. I struggled with low self‑esteem and felt disconnected from my creativity for a long time. Designing pieces for myself helped me rebuild my confidence and reconnect with who I was. Once I felt my spark again, I knew I wanted to create the same experience for others.

How has being a young founder shaped the way you think about leadership, responsibility, and impact?
Being a young founder has shown me how much of a leader I naturally am and how much I truly want to grow into that role. It’s taught me that responsibility means consistency, ownership, and stepping up even when others won’t. I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about age, it’s about intention, discipline, and heart. Impact is something I think about every day. Even though jewelry may seem small, the meaning behind it isn’t. Love, courage, representation, and confidence are powerful, and I want my brand to reflect that. I believe we all have the ability to make a difference, and this is the way I choose to create mine.

When you look ahead, how far do you hope to take your brand, and what does long-term success look like to you?
My dream is to grow into a major name in the fashion and jewelry industry. I’m creating a brand that gives people the freedom to express themselves without limits. I want to create space for creativity, individuality, and representation. One of my biggest long‑term goals is to build my own kind of fashion show, one that highlights designers who are often overlooked or underestimated, just like I once was. Success to me means building a platform that uplifts others while continuing to evolve creatively.

What challenges have you faced so far as a teen entrepreneur, and how have those experiences helped you grow personally and professionally?
One of my biggest challenges has been balancing everything from sports, family life, school, and running a business without burning out. Staying consistent while juggling so much is difficult, and I’ve learned the importance of taking breaks when I need them so I can come back stronger. Another challenge many business owners face, including me, is social media. I’ve never been naturally comfortable in front of a camera, so creating content can feel overwhelming. I try to make up for that by being personable and authentic in person, but learning to show up online is still a work in progress. Each challenge has pushed me to grow, stay patient with myself, and keep improving both personally and professionally.

What advice would you give to other young people who feel called to start something meaningful but aren’t sure where to begin?
My biggest advice is to do your research and follow what you genuinely love. Trends come and go, and trying to follow the crowd won’t take you far. When you build something you truly care about, you stop worrying about what others think or how long it takes to grow. Also, don’t rush to make everything perfect. Entrepreneurship is full of lessons, highs, lows, and slow days but all of it is part of the journey. Embrace it, learn from it, and keep going. Even on the days when progress feels small, don’t give up. Consistency and passion will take you further than perfection ever will.
