Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is all about overcoming obstacles. I learned that first hand on American Ninja Warrior, but it really applies to everyday life and starting a business as well. One of our greatest challenges was creating a high-quality product in America at a competitive price point. There is a reason so many companies manufacture overseas. Its much cheaper and can be much easier. We pride ourself on not only manufacturing in Downtown LA, USA, but selecting the highest quality fabrics and producing with people we now consider family and pay fair wages. On top of that every product we sell, we set aside 3.14% of sales to give back to inspiring more movement in peoples lives.

Keeping high standards is one obstacle we always rise to the challenge too but finding the right people who will match it with a fair price is difficult. We didn’t start with a manufacturing background. All of our contacts have been through research and knocking on doors and trail and error. We have failed a lot to know what we want and don’t want. It’s a constant challenge we fight every day, but we are up for the challenge.

Please tell us about Positive Impact Movement.
The Positive Impact Movement (Pi Movement) was created with one simple mission to create a positive impact through Movement. As a Movement Artist, Travis Brewer has been a finalist on the hit TV show American Ninja Warrior, Champion of the World Calisthenics.org and has had many opportunities to teach and perform all around the world. The culmination of his career has led him to pursue his two main passions in addition to movement which are creating the best performing apparel and trying to make the world a better place. After making Venice Beach his home, and joining a world-class community of movers he realized there were some gaps in the marketplace when it came to activewear that needed serious attention. He tore through countless pairs of pants doing crazy stunts on the beach but what bothered him most was that the companies making them didn’t seem to be concerned with sustainability, making them locally, or by integrating giving back into their business model. He had been inspired so much by companies like Patagonia and their dedication to 1% For The Planet and TOMS and the One for One Movement.

So he got to work! He knew he couldn’t do it alone so he looked to the help of his Tribe to find people to make this dream happen. He partnered with his good friend, Peyton Wallace, who was one of the original employees at TOMS. When Peyton joined the TOMS family he didn’t know anything about shoes or giving them away but quickly realized he knew a lot about making customers happy. He helped build the customer service department from the ground up with some amazing folks and got to see, first hand, the One for One Movement explode! Needless to say, he was down when Travis came to him with the opportunity to start our own Movement! We joined forces to create a positive impact movement and called it Pi Movement; and we are committed to giving back Pi% or 3.14% back with every purchase.

We give back to the people on our planet by building movement parks for adults and kids to encourage movement, meditation, and a mantra of “never stop playing”. All our gear is designed by a ninja in Venice and made in downtown Los Angeles by folks we consider family. The apparel is designed not solely for any kind of movement, but to be your go-to gear for all of life’s adventures. They can be your favorite pants when boarding a plane, in the boardroom, or on the floating boards on American Ninja Warrior. These American-made apparel items were designed for any movement to satisfy your soul. It’s designed with the quality to last a lifetime. With gratitude and love, Travis (Ninja) + Peyton (Ninja on the 1’s and 2’s) With every purchase of any Pi movement products, we give 3.14% to build parks across the world.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my earliest favorite memories from childhood would be around 1st grade. I loved MC Hammer and thought his music videos were the coolest. I wanted hammer pants and to be able to dance move and have fun as he did. I remember when I got to first pick out my outfit for school and told my mom I wanted MC Hammer pants. She was not as excited as I was. I am sure she was afraid I would maybe be an easy target to get picked on at school.

Regardless I put up a good fight and she eventually gave in and got me some hammer pants. I wore them to school with excitement, and luckily other kids at school were also as excited as I was. That next week at school many other kids also started getting the pants. It started a mini-movement and we would MC Hammer dance at any chance we could. It always puts a smile on my face and maybe that is where some of my original joy comes from in selling ninja pants today. I guess every since I can remember I wanted to get people into some movement pants and apparel and have fun while creating a positive impact movement.
