Daily Inspiration: Meet Poderosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Poderosa

Hi PODEROSA, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
PODEROSA is a Darkwave en Español project started by Juan Pablo Guevara & Brandon Reyes. We meet while working at a music retailer where we quickly discovered our shared love for rock en español, darkwave, post punk, and hip hop. We started writing music together in 2021 and released our first song later that year “AMOR ARMADO.” We played our first show in 2023 at The Knucklehead in Hollywood and have been performing shows ever since. Today, we continue to write and release new music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s easy for us to work together to create music. However, because we have a unique sound that blends darkwave, rock en español, & hip hop, it’s been a challenge finding our place within the music scene. Therefore, we’ve had to create our own lane in order to offer a new wave of Latin/Central American/Spanish music.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We create Darkwave en Español. We’re known for our heavy bass lines, electronic drum beats, dark lyrics in Spanish about life & love (la vida y el amor). We’re proud to create music that is truly unique and that pays homage to our Los Angeles/Central American roots.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Our biggest resource is life itself. Our music is inspired & shaped by our experiences in the past and in the present. Besides listening to a wide variety of Latin music, 80s new wave/ post punk, & hip hop, we also draw inspiration from books about philosophy, psychology, history, poetry, and the occult.
