Today we’d like to introduce you to Braxton Chea.
Hi Braxton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I worked as an intern for a larger Music blog in my last two years of college. When I graduated, unfortunately my internship as a music journalist ended. Finding a writing position that would pay me fresh out of college seemed extremely difficult (especially with the layoffs due to the pandemic), so I decided to start my own music blog: NoiseWeekly.com.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the very beginning (I started my blog on October 30, 2020) getting started was definitely a struggle. Getting people to notice my blog and to interact with me when I had almost no followers or co-signs was so humbling. I was scared that the music blog world was far too oversaturated and nobody would care what I had to say. I overcame those fears and kept my head down and focused on creating content and soon enough people started reacting and engaging with me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a freelance music journalist who started my own blog called NOISEWEEKLY.com. I specialize in music discovery and editorial pieces; I like to shed whatever spotlight I can on unknown and unsigned talents. I’m most proud of the fact that so far, I’ve written every single piece for my blog by myself. I would like a team someday, but so far I do not have one. Think that what sets me apart from others is how personable I am. I like to engage with artists and give them a real chance to talk about who they are and their art.
What matters most to you?
Music and art matter the most to me. My blog is a passion project; I do everything for the love of music. It’s important that if I’m going to endorse a song or a project that I genuinely believe in the artist and their work.
