Artist Spotlight: Havilah Malone on Purpose, Possibility, and the Power of Storytelling

Havilah Malone is the kind of artist who defies easy categorization. An award-winning actor, writer, producer, and spoken word poet, she moves fluidly between mediums, using each as a channel to explore truth, healing, and human potential. Rooted in spirituality and driven by service, her work blends art with intention—inviting audiences not just to watch or listen, but to reflect, expand, and remember their own power. With her latest spoken word album Proof of What’s Possible, Havilah continues her mission to spark transformation and remind others that their lives, too, are works of art in progress.

Havilah is also a content partner.  Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work we do, sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this.  Check out our conversation with Havilah below.

You’ve built such a dynamic career, from acting and writing to producing and spoken word. What drives you to keep creating across so many different mediums?

Creation, for me, is communion with the divine. Each medium, whether film, poetry, or prose, is another language through which the spirit speaks. I have never been content to live inside one box because life itself is multidimensional. What drives me is the call to express truth in whatever form it chooses to be birthed into the world through me. I am fascinated by human potential, including our ability to overcome obstacles and rise to new heights of compassion and achievement. Art is the bridge between who we are and who we are becoming. Every story, every performance, and every poem is a chance to remind someone that their existence is sacred and that they, too, are proof of what’s possible.

Your new spoken word album Proof of What’s Possible feels like a powerful reflection of your mission to inspire others. What does this project mean to you personally, and what do you hope listeners take away from it?

Proof of What’s Possible is my soul set to sound. It is the soundtrack of our conscious expansion, the connection to the truth of who we are and the power we possess. It is a call home to self. Personally, it is the most vulnerable I have ever been as an artist. This project is not about perfection; it is about permission—permission to feel, to fully accept oneself, and step audaciously into your divine birthright. I hope that when people listen, they walk away reminded that the impossible is only a story waiting to be rewritten, and that they are holding the pen.

You’ve described your purpose as being a catalyst for positive change in over two billion lives. How did that mission come to life for you, and what keeps you grounded in it day to day?

That mission was born out of stillness and surrender. During a season of deep questioning in 2013, I sat for two weeks in meditation seeking the answer to my life’s purpose. I heard a very clear directive: “You are here to remind people of their power.” It was never about fame or recognition—it was about impact. Every time I speak, perform, or even share a smile with a stranger, I see that ripple effect in motion. What keeps me grounded is gratitude. I start each day with meditation and remember that transformation begins with the one in the mirror. If I can consistently show up as love in action, and remember who and what I really am, the rest will take care of itself.

You’ve earned so many accolades across industries, from international film awards to a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Legislature. Looking back, what moments have felt the most meaningful or transformative for you?

The trophies are beautiful reminders, but the moments that move me most are quiet and human—the tears in someone’s eyes after a performance, the letter from a reader who found healing through my words, the student who finally believed they could be more. Those are the miracles that matter. Receiving acknowledgment from the State of California for my cultural and community contributions was deeply humbling, but the real transformation came from the journey it took to get there—the self-doubt, the faith, the surrender. Every accolade is really a reflection of the inner work it took to become the woman behind it.

As someone who’s mastered storytelling on stage, on screen, and in print, how do you see your creative work shaping culture and opening doors for others to “be proof of what’s possible”?

Storytelling is how we shape the future. It is how we expand what the world believes is possible. I see my creative work as both a mirror and a key—a mirror that reflects the beauty and complexity of who we are, and a key that unlocks new visions of who we can be. Representation matters, but embodiment matters even more. When people see a Black woman owning her narrative, leading with purpose, and defying limitation, it shifts what they believe they can do. My prayer is that my art becomes an invitation for people to rise, to shine, and to realize that they are the living proof the world has been waiting for.
