In this interview, Lisa Taylor shares how her book It All Begins With You emerged from a deeply personal season of exhaustion, loss, and transformation, and how years of committed healing work—from psychotherapy and yoga to shamanic practices and intuition—shaped a grounded, accessible approach to self‑care she calls “Me Moments,” explores how her many roles as an ICF‑certified life coach, shamanic healer, yoga teacher, doula, and content creator all connect through the common thread of guiding change, reflects on embracing discomfort and emotional darkness as powerful teachers rather than obstacles, and offers a compassionate invitation for readers to prioritize themselves without guilt so they can reconnect to their intuition, rebuild harmony in their lives, and remember that lasting change truly begins within.
Hi Lisa, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and heart with our readers. It All Begins With You grew out of a season of exhaustion, loss, and deep transformation. Looking back, what was the moment you realized your own healing journey needed to become something you shared with others?
That’s a great question – it happened many times for me and in many ways – knowing that I wanted to share this story with others.
Because I’ve been very dedicated to my healing – many, many tools were used!- psychotherapy weekly, reiki, yoga, meditation, tarot, astrology, water-fasting, travel, shamanic healing – I took notes on each and how they affected me. I noticed parallels, contrasts and comparisons in these modalities and noticed what they did for my life. So putting it all together in a book was the next natural step as I wanted to share the journey and experience.
Also, while I was in these challenging times and carving my way out of them, I realized how powerful the healing work truly is. It became clear that these are things that others must hear, know, learn and grow from, too. Especially because I wasn’t hearing many people in the mainstream world speak of this.
Your book blends practical self-care tools with spiritual practices like intuition, shamanic journeying, and “Me Moments.” How did you find a way to make these deeper healing concepts feel approachable and grounded for everyday life?
Each Me Moment is something that I have done or continue to do in my life. So, I used myself as the example to ensure that it truly is doable. 2 minutes of breathing, taking time to be mindful of your words, spending time with your community; almost all of the tools that I’ve recommended in the book are FREE! That makes it very accessible.:)
I’ve studied an ancient form of yoga – Kundalini and became a certified teacher in this style in this process. Because this form of yoga is a lifestyle approach – diet, sleep, meditation, sadhana – daily practice, being mindful of what you put into your “nine holes”; this became a great foundation to live in a new way. A conscious way. And when you experience this, you won’t want to go back to living unconsciously.
You wear many hats—ICF-certified life coach, shamanic healer, yoga teacher, doula, business owner—and you also built a following through your podcast and YouTube. How do these different roles come together to shape the unique way you guide clients today?
All of these roles are examples of being a guide for change. That is the thread that runs through them.
I guide people through life changes, business changes, and the use of physical tools that provide change (yoga and meditation); something that I know very well. And the essence of change is that it all begins with you. We will all experience change in our lives we can select to swim with the tide or fight against it.
A big theme in your message is learning to prioritize yourself without guilt, especially for people who are used to pouring into everyone else first. What does “radical self-care” actually look like in practice, and where should someone start if they’re running on empty?
Breathe. This slows down your nervous system, your mind, and even your organs. This allows for harmony in the body when completing 5-6 cycles of breath in just a few minutes.
I would advise to come back to the basics – food, sleep, water, sunlight, movement. So often we forget these basic things when we are taking care of others and these are EXACTLY what we need when running on empty.
Give yourself a glass of water and then give one to your partner.
Show your children how much happier you are when you are able to spend 10 minutes meditating in the morning.
Share with your clients that you take time away from your business, job, phone. They will respect you for it and they will honor it, too. And then actually take the time away!
If this is difficult for you, seek help – coach, counselor, therapist, friend. Its time to take care of you.
You often talk about trusting intuition and embracing life’s emotional storms as teachers rather than problems. How has leaning into those uncomfortable moments changed your own life and the way you make decisions now?
Darkness, or those moments of discomfort, are the greatest teachers. These moments became the portal to the light. To get there, I had to adjust myself to “see in the dark”; to be so comfortable in this space that it becomes normal, almost second nature.
When I was in the thick of it, I fought against this darkness, which created more fear for myself and a more challenging experience. I share in my book one particular dark moment while I was in a marriage that was emotionally abusive and felt like a bootcamp. I felt trapped, stuck and limited, all of the time. Constantly under scrutiny and loud yelling made me limit myself and not want to talk.
It was through my intuition or connection to source and my spirit guide team that got me through.
Now, I embrace challenge, most of the time, and I trust and believe in my abilities – intuition, clairvoyance and clairsentient to help me through my own challenges. I no longer feel stuck or limited as I know there is a path forward. Knowing that has made the challenges less daunting.
As this new book reaches more readers, what impact do you hope it has—and what would it mean to you if someone finished It All Begins With You feeling truly different than when they started?
My hope is that more people will see the brilliance of themselves – that they can survive and thrive what life throws at them. Knowing that I’ve inspired someone through growth and change is something that feels like a dream – something that I’ve desired to experience in my life, yet, not knowing how it would come together. My soul would feel accomplished and my heart would be bursting with joy!
