Today we’d like to introduce you to Forest.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Forest. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In middle school, I took up a band class and one day our band teacher didn’t come to class so we use that free time to play some of our favorite songs like “Drop Like It’s Hot”. I freestyled over the beat and everybody went crazy. That’s when I knew I had something I just didn’t know where to start. That same year (Age 12) I recorded my first track, played it for everybody at my school and by the end of the day they knew the lyrics that motivated me to stick with it. By the time I got to high school I was recording every day and rapping at every assembly we had but I couldn’t pursue it full-time because I was one of the star players on the football team. When I was 17 I was shot in my leg in front of my grandma house and it took a toll on me mentally. After that happened I realized that life is short and I should start doing what I love so after I finish my senior year in high school I attended college for a year, dropped out and started to pursue music full time. I got my first break 2 years ago when I dropped my first mixtape “UNDRWATER” on the biggest blog on the east coast called Pigeons and Planes. Fast forward to 2018 I have a management team, my own record label (New Genre Company) and a ton of new music I’m releasing this year.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always a smooth road for me. I don’t come from much money so I struggled financially. I’ve work countless 9 to 5 jobs to invest in my art and half of my investments I took a lost. ` I had to sacrifice time with family and friends to figure out who I am and what separates me from everybody else trying to make it big in the music industry and I went through depression when all of my hard work seem like it wasn’t paying off.
YOUFOUNDFOREST – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a music artist by the name of Forest. I specialize in performing, recording, marketing, creating content, networking and creating cloths. I’m known for creating something you’ve never heard before. I’m proud of all the supporters I have in my life, my team, the music I’m creating and the ability I have to overcome. The thing that separates me from others is that I embrace that I am different from everyone else, I’m me and no one else could ever replicate that.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m proud of every moment of my career because every moment is art, every moment that I experience is a story that I can tell through the music.
