Meet Vanetta Schoefield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanetta Schoefield.

Hi Vanetta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There has always been an entrepreneur muscle since a very young age, I just flexed it in workplaces where I wasn’t the boss & one day said, “you know what, I’m done being fired & I’m done not taking up the space I deserved”. But I was afraid to start my business from scratch so I got a bartending gig that funded the start of my company & the relationships I built there helped me start my company.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about entrepreneurship is smooth. Even in my best moments where I feel supported & productive there’s this to-do list with tasks that keep growing & fires to put out daily. My biggest struggle has been to serve less & lead more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Creator, Founder & Janitor of Funny Hunnyz LLC. We are a production company that is a Hub for Hilarious Homegirls promoting Black Women in Comedy through content & events. I am most proud that I saw a problem with the lack of resources & opportunities for up & coming comedians & with my skillset plus a bunch of hard work, I have a mission to solve it. What sets Funny Hunnyz apart is we are for and by black women.

What were you like growing up?
A horse trampled over my dad’s car on the way to work one morning. I was five years old. I went with my mom to the scene & saw that our car was in pieces. She’s crying her eyes out on the way to the hospital & I say, “Mommy…” In retrospect, I’m she was prepared for the worst & I said, “what color was the horse?” So yes, I was a really visual weirdo. But I had an eye for PRODUCTION!
