Meet Tueykay Jew of Acupuncture With Heart in West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tueykay Jew.

Tueykay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Over 20 years ago, I started out practicing massage therapy, specializing in Shiatsu-style massage. I felt that there was more to learn about the body and it’s ability to heal itself.

At the same time, I was constantly lethargic and overall not feeling well. A friend suggested I try acupuncture. I didn’t want to have to take prescription medication, so I made an appointment with her acupuncturist.

This changed my view on life. I went twice a week for over a year and a half. I cooked the raw herbal teas and took the prescribed herbal formulas in pill form.

I could feel the change within 3 months of treatment. I felt my energy coming back, , my sleep was deeper and my digestion improved. What stood out most was that the acupuncturist was extremely kind during each of my visits. Every treatment had a different effect on me. Many treatments brought out deep emotions.

Sometimes, I would burst into tears during the session and she would come back in to check on me every few minutes or just stay in the room until I calmed down. Her kindness helped my healing process and I wanted to share that with others. After my experience with acupuncture, I knew that being a Healer was meant to be my path.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This is a natural medicine and it takes time for the body to heal.

Clients want an instant fix and Western medicine often offers immediate relief. The individual needs to participate in their own healing process by being consistent and following through with the suggested treatment protocol. Treatment protocols may include a prescribed number of office visits, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional guidance and specific physical movement.

What makes my job challenging is the client’s inability to show up for regular office visits as needed until their condition heals. It can mean once or twice a week until their symptoms clear.

Many people confuse natural remedies with quick Western results. Like Acupuncture, herbal remedies need to be taken more frequently and for a longer duration.

Another obstacle for me is when clients have several other healing practitioners which compartmentalizes their healing and overlaps with what I have to offer in treating their conditions.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
I didn’t grow up in a nurturing and supportive household. Therefore, I made it part of my life quest to offer what was not offered to me.

I was a quiet child in a hectic environment, so my escape was reading which I still enjoy today.
