Meet Stephanie Karsh of Hair By Stephanie Karsh in Irvine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Karsh.

Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started doing hair when I was 18. I knew what I wanted as my career my senior year of high school and went to beauty school at night. I assisted for 1 1/2 years after graduating beauty school and have been with the same group of stylists my entire career. Two of my friends opened the Refinery Salon in Irvine and a group of us moved over from our previous salon. We’ve all become one big family and you will feel that when you come to our salon. We all get along great and it’s a great atmosphere to get your hair done!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s always hard building your clientele. It takes time and effort to market yourself and you’re always building. In the beginning, it’s hard to not be busy and be in the salon waiting for a walk in or promoting yourself, trying to get new business. In the end, it’s worth it. You build a relationship with long term clients and they start to send you people because they love their hair.

Please tell us about Hair By Stephanie Karsh.
I’ve been doing hair for 12 years now and I love my job. Making people feel beautiful whether it’s a completely new style, fun color or just enhancing their natural beauty — it’s all worth it knowing they leave your chair feeling confident.

I specialize in color and love all types! Blondes, reds, brunettes — it’s all fun to do! My favorite thing is to add soft highlights or balayaged pieces that leave hair looking sun kissed and create dimension with the different tones.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come since I started doing hair. I’ve continued my education and love learning new techniques.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory would be giving my Barbie’s bangs. I think that’s when I realized I wanted to become a hairstylist.
