Meet Steph Wilberding of HK Fitness in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steph Wilberding.

Steph, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I spent all of my adult life struggling with my weight and finding a sustainable fitness habit. This all changed when I found Mark Fisher Fitness in NYC. I spent two years training at this amazing gym. I had finally found a gym with amazing training and an awesome environment…. all of this resulting in me wanting to show up.

I was asked by Mark Fisher if I’d be interested in joining the team as a trainer and I jumped at the opportunity. I studied for certification and spent months being mentored by Mark and his team. I put my acting career on pause and dove headfirst into my fitness career.

My years on the team at Mark Fisher Fitness inspired my leap to the West Coast to open HK Fitness. My mission and that of HK Fitness is to create a fitness home where all people, no matter their fitness experience or level, feel welcomed.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been personal and professional struggles in the transition from NYC to LA, but it’s all been anchored in excitement in creating HK Fitness.

I try to focus on the perks that come with building my own business. As to be expected, this journey often blends my personal and professional life, and as a new business owner in a new city that has been a blessing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about HK Fitness – what should we know?
HK Fitness is a group fitness studio specializing in High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) resistance training with focuses on kettlebell and bodyweight calisthenics.

In addition to HKFit classes, we also offer a 6-week total body transformation program called “Snatched In Six Weeks.” This program has been running successfully in NYC at Mark Fisher Fitness for over 7 years. HK Fitness is the first and only gym to offer the “Snatched” program on the West Coast.

What I’m most proud of with HK Fitness, is what sets us apart from other fitness experiences. Our training model is supportive of all fitness levels, specializing in individualized coaching in a group setting. We prioritize technique and form, so people feel confident in progressing at their own pace with encouragement from our coaches.

We also have a ton of fun with music-themed classes, group comradery and community activities like group hikes and fitness session wrap parties at the studio. Training at HK Fitness is not about perfection. It’s about creating a sustainable routine to enjoy your life regardless of your size, fitness level or experience.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Mark Fisher and Michael Keeler, the founders of Mark Fisher Fitness in NYC. They both mentored me as a coach and business owner supporting my leap to LA to spread the MFF mission with HK Fitness.

The entire MFF community sending cross-country love and visiting me at HK Fitness when they are in town, as well as spreading the word to their friends and family in LA. The training team at MFF. I was blessed to work with the smartest and most compassionate trainers in the business.

It was at MFF where I learned how powerful it could be to use fitness as a way to help people live a bigger, fuller life. I have a team of investors and advisors who have been instrumental in HK it’s launch in LA. They continue to support me as the business flourishes.

My growing staff at HK Fitness who have jumped into this experience with such enthusiasm and belief in what we are creating. The early members of the HK Fitness community have inspired me beyond words.

Witnessing their transformations, both on and off the mat, have been such a gift. They inspire me daily, and we’ve only just begun!
