Today we’d like to introduce you to Roselly Monegro.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Roselly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for art began at a young age and I always knew that eventually, I wanted to do my own thing. Throughout the years, I’ve made some attempts at becoming a full-time freelance artist but failed due to not having a solid plan and the critical knowledge that I needed in order to attract clients.
On 2014, I started creating lettering and illustration pieces as a hobby, not really realizing that It could become a business at some point. When I had some downtime at work, I would create and share my art with my co-workers. They would ask me to create art with their names or quotes for them to decorate their cubicles. Around this time, I also started taking a number of art related online classes; within those classes, I found a hand-lettering course that made me fall in love with this craft. That’s when my obsession and love for type began. By 2017, I shared my work constantly on social media, landing a few paying gigs.
By then, I knew had found my passion, so I started investing in myself and learning from other successful artists that are doing their own thing. Meeting other artists and networking inspired me at another level, teaching me that it is possible to live by doing what you love… If you have a plan and are willing to put in the work.
At the end of 2018, I left my corporate job and moved to Los Angeles. Here I decided to start my hand-lettering design studio. In such a short time, I have worked on a variety of projects with clients from all over the United States.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all, it has been far from smooth. Success does not come easy, it is a lot of work; you might spend long hours sitting at your desk and there might be times when you don’t get enough client work as you’d like, which is expected if you’re just getting started.
There are a lot of things that I have yet to learn and figure out; it is a constant learning process but I feel confident that it will become easier as I go.
As an introvert, I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone by being more social, showing my face more on social media, participating in client video calls/meetings, working at events where I had to interact in one on one settings with guests, and networking with other business owners.
Even though there have been some challenges, I am enjoying every step of the way.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Inking Rose – what should we know?
