Meet Nora Moore of GigOut

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nora Moore.

Hi Nora, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a soccer mom of two creative boys. One of my greatest parenting joys is seeing my kids discover what they are passionate about. My older son, Mo, is a rapper and digital influencer. My younger son, Bronson, is a video editor and Fortnite gamer. Knowing that my kids and many others in their generation are digital savvy creatives, I realized that current job sites do not serve them. That is how the idea for GigOut was born.

I developed a job app specifically for the first generation of digital natives.

The current job process is painful.

You have to play keyword games just to get your resume past AI word scanners, 75% of resumes are rejected before even reaching a hiring manager.

I started to tweak some of the fun elements of social media and merge them into the current job process to make it more intuitive.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Initially, the hardest part of building an app was getting started.

It is easy to have an idea, but the follow through to commit to the business process was the first hump. I am new to the tech world so I didn’t know where to begin. However, I’m not new to strategy, research, and implementation.

The next hurdle is fundraising.

In 2020 women-led startups received just 2.3% of venture capital funding.

I had to take a step back and digest the fact that in modern day America, over 98% of VC funding went to men (!). Throw in another hurdle of being a WOC and I am well aware of the challenges ahead. Once the sticker shock cleared, I rolled up my sleeves excited to dive in and drive this number up. The opportunity to be part of change and growth enlivens me. I built a career in the male-dominated sports & entertainment worlds, I graduated B-school with only a handful of other women, I coached my son’s soccer team (3 seasons) with mostly men. Making inroads in another male-dominated industry is the next feat to tackle. Let’s go!

As you know, we’re big fans of GigOut. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
GigOut is a job app where creative unicorns thrive and feel valued.

Creative minds are often overlooked and underappreciated. I wanted a place where they feel free to express themselves creatively and not pressured to be constrained professionally. Snackable content makes it easy to highlight and view your various skills. GigOut places value on our community and provides features that help them display their magic.

As the workplace evolves so do employment positions. Gig jobs are growing 3x faster than traditional roles. Companies are now filling newly created roles that never existed and they don’t know where to find unique talent. For example, Budweiser’s CMO (Chief Meme Officer), Nerf’s CTO (Chief TikTok Officer), Huda Beauty’s CIO (Chief Instagram Officer). It is impossible to market yourself as a good hire for positions like these via only resume bullet points.

Many describe GigOut as TikTok meets LinkedIn.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Imposter syndrome is real, but at some point you have to boss up and realize you’re built for your journey.
Along the way of developing an app, I consulted many people to gain insight. I am very grateful for people’s time, but take advice with discernment. It is okay to say “thanks for your feedback” and keep it moving. Other people’s thought process can really disrupt your vision and you start to second guess yourself. Trust your instinct and learn to filter out needless noise.

  • GigOut is free to download in the Android and iOS app stores
