Meet Cole McKeon of Below Invoice & Revealize

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole McKeon.

Cole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I knew at a young age that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. After years of working automotive sales in the automotive sales, I knew I wanted to continue to use my talents and knowledge of the auto industry to help people save money on their leases and purchases. Working on the lot made me realize the way we made money in our job was to take advantage of our customers. I felt a strong desire to be an advocate for the consumer – that’s how my first company Below Invoice, a full-service luxury and exotic auto brokerage, was born.

Today, the company has helped thousands of people save time and hundreds of thousands of dollars on new leases and purchases. Three years into starting Below Invoice, I needed a new website. At which point I realized, the web design industry had several parallels to the auto industry. The web design process was ambiguous and less than transparent. That’s when I had the idea to start my second company, Revealize, a full-service web development, and design company.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
First, I should say that I’m a college dropout. But in the long run, it has become as more of a benefit than a struggle. After three years of intensive partying, I dropped out of Chico State University. I was forced to succeed in other areas of my life. At which point, I began working in the auto industry, I was making good money, but I wasn’t satisfied.

When I started the Below Invoice at 23, I was an expert in my field, but I actually knew very little about running a business. I started the company by myself, and when I wasn’t helping people with their purchase of a new vehicle, I found myself studying business in my spare time, something I neglected to do when I was in college. I learned many lessons the hard way, through trial and error.

I experienced a huge learning curve when I started Revealize, I taught myself web design and development, spending countless hours learning how to build a custom WordPress websites, HTML and CSS coding, analyze page speed, SEO best practices, etc.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My two mentors have helped me more than I could have asked for. I would like to thank Greg Lai and Kevin Rudrud. Without the guidance of these two men, I would have made a lot more mistakes and the road would have been infinitely more difficult.

Greg is the founder of an investment firm with over $1.5 billion assets under management and was previously acquired by Morgan Stanley. His business acumen and advice have been paramount to my success

Kevin is hands down the best salesman I know. He really cares about his clients and that is the key to his success. He’s earned a place among the top 1% of mortgage brokers in the nation and is a huge inspiration to me.
