Meet Devone King of 90X Vision Label in Central LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devone King.

Devone, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a fine art major in high school, which then brought me to CCA, majoring in Animation with a minor in film. It was in that Film course where I knew I wanted to direct.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has absolutely not been a smooth road. The biggest issue being it was very difficult supporting a passion, with no paid security for life necessities. It also didn’t help that filmmaking isn’t a cheap passion. Freelancing is the only way you can be as creative as you want but it comes with a lack of security.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the 90X Vision Label story. Tell us more about your work.
90XVision is a bicoastal media company, started in 2016 by me and a talented filmmaker I met in college, Wooyeon Cho. We both had an interest in becoming apart of the entertainment industry; we believed our unique ways of storytelling and our background in fine art would bring a fresh perspective to the game.

Because of my background in fine art and animation, I was initially drawn to editing videos. Although I was gaining attention for my editing, I then felt I wanted to be more involved in the production process and decided to try videography. Filming and editing my work gave me a chance to put my personal stamp on each piece but through filming, I found my passion for Directing films. I currently continue to do all three positions but I recently started relinquishing the editing and filming to other talented artists, to focus on directing.

I specialize in storytelling and bringing visions to life. The thing I’m most proud of in regards to my company is that we’ve worked with clients from all over the spectrum. From upcoming artists and small businesses to large corporations like Def Jam records and vice media (to name a few). I think my background in fine arts plus my skill of storytelling really is the mixture that sets us apart.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
For me, bad luck always leads to good luck. Example: whenever a client cancelled, a better opportunity popped up. I don’t think that’s too common and I’m very grateful for balance.
