Meet Cameron Radice and Sivan Amilani of Cameron Radice Photography in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Radice and Sivan Amilani.

Cameron and Sivan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Colorado, I was always the kid with a camera asking his friends and family to make movies and pose for photos. Something about the craft of storytelling through a visual medium was always captivating to me. So much so, that I enrolled in film school to study directing and cinematography right out of high school, and upon graduating, moved to the City of Angels to pursue the entertainment industry at a higher level.

I always felt that coming out here as an actor with a greater understanding of the filmmaking process gave me a bit of a leg up. Everything from playing to the camera, to lighting my own self tape auditions became a key piece in booking many of my first gigs and TV credits. While I dabbled in still photography back home, I didn’t consider it a main career path until friends of mine in LA started asking me to take their headshots. Like most things, it became a bit of a word of mouth roller coaster. I took some shots for a friend, and then their friends asked for shots, and so on and so forth. It was a little bit of an ‘ah-ha’ moment for me, as I realized I could continue to produce beautiful images and tell stories- albeit one frame at a time instead of 24 a second as with film.

I began studying trends in headshot photography and did my best to incorporate them into my own work, often shooting in natural light under bridges and in parking garages. It was an exciting time for me, as I felt I was learning a new craft that I was genuinely falling in love with and getting to meet and work with some really incredible actors.

Over the next five years, I really focused on creating my own look and style. I always wanted my headshots to have their own signature aesthetic that would be recognizable wherever they popped up. Parking garages and natural light were upgraded to a studio location and controlled light. Indistinguishable outdoor backgrounds were replaced with well thought out and crafted textures and depth. My subjects began popping off the screen like never before and agents seemed to take notice. We began finding ourselves at the top of countless agent and manager referral lists and our inquiries significantly increased.

I think our look is ever changing and evolving, but I couldn’t be happier with where we are now and where I feel we are going! I’m grateful I get to do something that I truly love, and that I get to be a part of so many other actors’ journeys along the way.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with anything, there are always challenges! In the beginning most of my obstacles had to do with the elements. A windy or rainy day was sure to shut us down. That’s a huge drag when you’re trying to build and cultivate a new business. For a long time, we were at the mercy of the sun and the time of year, not to mention location availability. I knew the parking garage I shot in most often would fill up with cars at a certain hour every day, leaving us with little room to squeeze in actors. It was kind of hard to scale while only having about 2 hours a day to shoot! Thankfully, all of these obstacles disappeared when we moved into our current studio location!

All of that said, I think our biggest challenge over time was simply getting our work seen. There are a lot of actors in LA, but there are also a LOT of photographers. In such a dense market, it was really about finding our signature look and what makes us stand out.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cameron Radice Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our job is to provide beginning and seasoned actors with the most important tool in their arsenal, and that’s something we do not take lightly. The headshot is so much more than just a picture of someone’s face. There has to be something alluring and magnetic about it- Everything from the lighting and composition, to the connection the actor makes with the camera is equally important.

I think something that helps set us apart from others is that we are very detail oriented and specific. Every actor deserves their own personalized attention. One of the first things we do when an actor arrives is take a few minutes to get to know them a little bit and go over their goals for the photos. What kind of characters do they go out for? How are they currently branding themselves? From there, we craft every element of the work to match. Nothing we do is by accident- the wardrobe, the backgrounds, and the lighting all play a part in crafting the character an actor is hoping to achieve.

We also understand the tight budgets most actors are on, and don’t believe an actor should have to break the bank to get top of the line shots. We keep our pricing at an extremely competitive level for this reason and hope to be sort of a ‘diamond in the rough.’

We aren’t looking to be a machine that just cranks out shots. We genuinely care for and love our actors and always do our best to capture everything they could possibly need to help them get to the next level.
