Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisjah Bowens.
Aisjah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been fascinated with the beauty/makeup industry and its ability to enhance and transform faces in many different creative ways. I became hooked at a very young age and have since been a makeup enthusiast. Not only have I become a lover of beauty/make-up, but being the kind of woman that wants to see the world I fell in love with travel.
My love of travel began from a six-week travel study program to Salvador Bahia, Brazil while in college. It was an experience that changed my life and birthed the wanderlust spirit in me. I simply cannot stay still and as I began to travel more, well after that program ended, I thought about ways to make it more affordable and in turn, be able to travel more frequently.
Has it been a smooth road?
Prior to launching my blog, I’ve had my domain name for 2+ years. I allowed the fact that I didn’t have a logo to prevent me from taking the plunge and launching. I was unsure of what I wanted as far as design goes for the logo, but I knew I wanted it to truly represent who I am. To this day I still don’t know what I want but that became less and less important in comparison to the content I wanted to create and share now. I will eventually come back to the logo dilemma in due time.
The most challenging part of blogging is being consistent. It can become rather difficult to carve out time to dedicate to posting on a consistent basis when I have other obligations like a full-time job and other outside commitments. My time management skills have definitely been put to the test and have significantly improved after I began blogging. I also want to make sure that I stay honest and true to who I am.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lipstickcoco – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a lifestyle, travel, beauty blogger and I explore my creativity through each of these channels. Traveling to different parts of the world inspires me in ways I never imagined and I like to document those moments from my point of view. I like to incorporate cultural influences into my everyday life by creating different fashion/makeup/hair looks.
I couple documenting these experiences on the blog, with ways in which I save money but also how I make extra cash to increase the number of experiences I can enjoy without going bankrupt. The idea that one has to spend a lot of money to travel often simply isn’t true. Also, keep in mind that traveling often is subjective. You can spend very little money and have a very rich experience traveling. Throw in a couple of staycations, road trips and weekend getaways to add variety.
The same goes for beauty/makeup. You can cut your costs by having a DIY approach to some of your favorite inspired looks. Some people don’t mind paying for convenience and that is okay, but I want to show people there are ways to save AND ways to make extra money wherever they can. You can live a very active life on a budget.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of Los Angeles. There is something different to do in every nook and cranny of the city. You can find just about anything to do on any given night. There are art shows, museums, hiking, beaches, live music events, pop-ups, clubs, lounges, you name it. Not to mention the food choices are amazing and are just as diverse.
The traffic! It is as bad as you think it is, I promise.
