Hidden Gems: Meet Paige Killian of Everything With Style

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Killian.

Hi Paige, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Tennessee girl born and raised, now living in beautiful Southern California with my husband and two awesome kids, who definitely keep me busy!

I grew up babysitting my much younger brothers and every neighborhood kid I could to earn enough money to buy my own car at fifteen. I wanted independence and thankfully, my parents allowed me to search for it. I fell in love with the stage, got my degree in theatre performance, and leapt at the chance to pursue any entrepreneurial opportunities that came my way.

While my racing mind gravitated toward new exciting adventures and craved meeting new people, I always had a mild obsession with organization. Okay, maybe not so mild.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an organized person, carefully and meticulously arranging things around me to combat overwhelming feelings of anxiety and stress. I thrived on that sense of structure and have always felt more freedom in organization than bound to it.

After coming to California on a whim post-college to work on a movie, I felt a pull to teach when a position opened up at my roommate’s school. I began teaching kindergarten, which was pretty much like being on stage everyday, and it gave me an opportunity to use my organizational skills in the classroom. I taught for more than 13 years and loved it!

When I decided to start my professional organizing business in 2016, I had to credit my kindergarteners for a 3-step strategy I was using with my clients and in my own home as well, called The 3 E’s Philosophy, to simplify the organization process.

I realized that if I gave those cute, little five year olds just three simple steps at a time, it would move them forward in getting their work done without feeling too overwhelmed.

As busy moms of littles, we can certainly handle more than three steps, but when all the unexpected stuff comes up and we are multitasking like crazy to get it all done, three simple steps to get organized keeps the stress and overwhelm at bay. That’s the goal!

As my client list grew, I started getting asked to speak at mom groups regularly about organization, recently wrote a book about it, and started a podcast called The Mom’s Organization Motivation Podcast.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I can’t help but laugh at this question. No, it definitely has not been smooth sailing. Not only do regular mom life things come up often that can easily derail my big biz plans, but a global pandemic didn’t help my in-home organizing services at all. I should say that mom life is my first priority, so that’s totally okay. Additionally, I should note that all of the quarantining and social distancing really caused me to pivot in my business and a beautiful blessing came from it.

I started a podcast in April 2020. Instead of meeting people in their homes to organize, I got to be in their earbuds while they did laundry and on their car radios as they temporarily escaped their homes in search of food and toilet paper that was scarce at the time.

Organizing seemed to explode and even garner series after series on Netflix! As we all found ourselves homeschooling our kids and working from home with our spouses and roommates, the need to purge the clutter and organize our space became paramount.

The faith-based, organizing podcast quickly shot to the top of the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. in the “Home and Garden” and “Leisure” categories. It hit the “All Time Best” list immediately in the first week it launched, began charting in multiple countries, and today is ranked in the top 1.5% of podcasts in the world. In January 2021, The Mom’s Organization Motivation Podcast won “Best Family Podcast” in the Podcasting for Business Awards.

It still feels like I’m talking about someone else’s podcast as I say that. It’s so surreal.

So, while there have been plenty of setbacks, tech issues, lots of virtual organizing sessions, scrambles to create online courses to serve my clients, several virtual speaking engagements until I get to be on an actual stage again (my true love), there have been blessings beyond measure.

For that, I am grateful and massively humbled. I feel blessed to have loyal clients, who were so patient during the global health crisis, and now loyal listeners of the podcast who keep coming back.

This only fuels my desire to find more ways to serve them, to say “thank you,” and to hopefully simplify their lives so they may focus on all of the blessings around them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Everything With Style?
I’ve said for years, we can’t do everything perfectly, but we can do everything with style. That’s how the company name, Everything With Style, was chosen. My mission is to meet my busy mom clients where they’re at in life, in whichever season they are in with their families, in their homes or their work. While my focus is simplifying the organization process, using the 3 E’s, I know that it’s not always one size fits all.

Getting organized should fit the style of each client, otherwise it won’t last. I’m in the busy mom trenches too and my style changes as my kids grow and as my schedule changes. So I get it! When I enter a client’s home, meet them online, or speak to a group of awesome moms who just need a little organization motivation, I can completely relate to them. My goal is to help them clear the clutter to see the blessings God has for them, that can often get lost in disorganization. It has to be simple or it just won’t get done. So, we apply the 3 E’s: Essentials, Enhancements, and Extras to quickly take their space from crappy to happy!

I would be remiss if I didn’t say that I couldn’t have built this brand without the support of family and friends, my business coach Kelly Mobeck, my literary coach and agent Jessica Killingley, my podcast coach Lynsay Anne Gould and team, and of course, my dreamy clients!
