Conversations with the Inspiring Mascha Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mascha Davis.

Mascha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was seven years old, my family immigrated to the United States from Ukraine as political refugees. I didn’t speak a word of English and found my new environment terrifying. My family came with almost nothing, and we moved constantly for the first few years. Overcoming these challenges taught me resilience.

As I grew older, it also instilled in me the true meaning of gratitude as I realized that just by virtue of coming to the US, I was given opportunities that many people are not fortunate enough to have. I felt tremendously lucky, and also discovered a sense of purpose – a strong desire to make a difference and give back. After enrolling at the University of WI-Madison, I landed on my true passion – nutrition. I learned that what we put into our bodies affects our physical, emotional and mental health.

As I began my journey of becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), I started on a path of discovery of what it means to be truly healthy and to help others. After completing my undergraduate studies in Nutritional Science & Dietetics, I went on to obtain my Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree at UCLA and to complete my accredited dietetic internship at the VA Hospital in Los Angeles. Since then my career has taken me to places all around the world – Europe, the US and Africa.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were definitely some struggles along the way, especially when it came to figuring out how to start and run a successful business. I would advise young women to get as much experience as possible and to find mentors in their desired career path. This may take time, but with perseverance and a positive and grateful outlook, it will happen.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Nomadista Nutrition story. Tell us more about the business.
After more than 10 years of practicing nutritional science and public health while living and working around the globe, I discovered what works, what doesn’t and what it means to live a truly healthy life. I built a foundation of nutrition tools and techniques that have transformed my own health – and which transforms the health of the people I’m lucky enough to work with. That’s when I decided to launch my private practice here in LA – Nomadista Nutrition!

One of the newer services that I offer in my practice is nutrigenomics – this is a genetic test that looks at nutritional markers and helps determine with precision what the best types of foods and exercise are for YOUR particular body. This is a new area of nutrition and I’m proud and excited to be able to offer this incredible test to my clients.

I work with:

Individuals and families (appointments available at my two Los Angeles office locations as well as virtually).

Companies and corporations seeking to improve their products as well as the health of their employees.

The media (as a National Media Spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and as a health writer).

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I love reading books that focus on growth and self-improvement. I really admire other entrepreneurs who have found their niche and figured out how to be extremely successful in and outside their field, like Gary Vaynerchuk, Jessica Alba and dietitians who have gone outside the box and done incredible things like launch food companies!

One of my goals this year is to meditate more and I have a few apps that help me with that – one of my favorites is Simple Habit.

Connecting with other people in my field such as other food and nutrition professionals has also been a huge inspiration and motivation for me.
