Check Out Elizabeth LaGue’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth LaGue.

Hi Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA I was introduced to the beauty industry at a very young age by my mom and aunt, as nail artists, and my dad who dabbled a bit in special effects and a lot in art. I was always in the salon as a kid. sweeping up everyone’s stations and babysitting all the hairdresser’s kids for extra money.

Little did I know it would shape so much of my future. As a senior in high school, I started my career as a Cosmetologist. Graduating and getting my license right at 18, I started assisting doing hair at a high end salon in the Valley. I knew my next step in artistry was to attend Makeup School at award-winning Makeup Designoery-specializing in beauty Makeup and Special Effects. I have always seen beauty as the whole picture and wanted to be as well rounded and educated in my field as possible when it came to hair and Makeup. I have been incredibly lucky to study at academies like Vidal Sassoon and Paul Mitchell over the years, continuing my education in anything that is up and coming in the industry of beauty, as it is always changing and growing. I too want to grow as it grows and change as it changes.

Fast forward 20 years, and I have worked pretty much every facet of the industry. While maintaining an elite clientele at my private studio, I have also worked in TV, Film, and Fashion. My resume includes Many years of experience working on the Victoria Secret Fashion show, Award shows like The Primetime Emmys, BET Music Awards, Soul train Music Awards, NYC and LA Fashion week, and day playing on shows on Major networks like E!, HGTV, VH1, BET, FOX, and Court TV. I have done print Campaigns with Mercedes Benz USA, Ducati, Miss USA, Von Dutch, Universal, Reebok, and Nordstroms, to name a few. I have been met with so many amazing Jobs thus Far and am only getting started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road, no. I don’t believe anything of value is handed to you without putting in some serious time, hustle and heart. I would say my struggle has mostly been with time, something we have zero control over. It takes time to build a successful business and time to learn your craft. When you are passionate and excited about something, you just want it all to happen overnight. What we don’t realize when we are going through all those peaks and valleys is that right there is where the lesson lies, in the struggle. I am grateful everyday for that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Artist, I do pretty much all things Hair and Makeup. I style, I love a throwback or a decade challenge when it comes to hair or Makeup. I cut and I specialize in Color and Hair Extensions. I am known for hearing what my clients, directors, or producers are asking of me and effortlessly executing those visions- breathing life into them. It’s all about the details, and Hair and Makeup just bring ALL the details together. I would say what I am most proud of, and my very favorite thing about what I do is making Women feel confident and powerful through their Hair and Makeup. I get to be part of getting ready for graduations and proms, first interviews, for engagements and weddings, for first haircuts, and holiday family photos year after year. There is nothing like sharing those moments with my clients.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love to Dance-Tap, jazz, Ballet, Hip hop, Cheer. I did all of it. I also performed, competed and professionally taught West Coast Swing Dancing. Although it feels like a whole lifetime ago at this point, it most definitely shaped how I carry myself and how I interact with people.
