We recently had the chance to connect with Davida Rappaport and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Davida, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People don’t always understand the services that psychics provide. We all have different talents, interests and ways of conducting business. I am primarily an entertainment psychic which means I am hired to entertain guests by providing interactive entertainment at all types of events — corporate and social, etc. Sometimes people think I just work events, so I need to let them know that I also see clients privately when they ask.
Ethics are important and I adhere to a strict code of ethics which excludes giving health and legal advice. I never tell people what to do. I may offer suggestions and provide options and possibilities, but that’s as far as I can go. I do keep it fun, entertaining and I love to empower people.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Davida and I’m a psychic. I’ve been doing spiritual work professionally for 30 years in Los Angeles and about 10 years, previously in my hometown of Chicago. When I started working events, it felt like I was “on stage” when my adrenaline kicked in. It was very exciting. I don’t often feel that adrenaline high, but I always feel warmth, passion and love when I am doing a reading for someone. I never know what I am going to tell someone until I sit down with them and make that energy connection.
I currently work events (local, national and international), teach Tarot classes at Santa Monica Community College in their continuing education department and I see clients privately. What makes me different from others who do this type of work is the way I do what I do. It is essential for me to be able to connect to a person’s energy in order to do a reading for them. Everything I do depends upon clear communication and making sure the information I provide resonates. It’s magical when everything comes together.
I provide a fun, interactive experience for all types of events with a little enlightenment and empowerment thrown in for good measure.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
That would have been my father. He instilled in me a good work ethic. I think we call that a Midwestern work ethic today. He always rolled up this sleeves and worked. He would give someone the shirt off his back and offer to help them. He trusted people and treated everyone with respect, even those who did not deserve it. He taught me that if I give someone my word, I must honor it. He’s probably one of the main reasons I have high ethics today and a strong desire to help people. Even though he passed away 45 years ago, I still hear his voice and words in my ear. I think he would be proud of me and the work I do.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
There are many kind things I would say to my younger self. I’ll give you two because they dovetail.
You are not alone. Everyone has self-esteem issues. Without these issues you cannot grow and become stronger. Take a few moments and look at your strengths and weaknesses. Do things when you feel less than. Even though you are sensitive and may cry easily, understand that you are human and you feel things very deeply. You are an empath. One day you will understand how your emotions will set you free and how your sensitivity is your strength — your gift to the world.
You chose the right way to deal with bullies. You really did. As a result of standing up to them verbally, you learned how to deal with difficult people. This will serve you well later in life.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I love this question. I am the same person in public as I am in private. What you see is what you get. I own my stuff and I sometimes overshare. Whoops, my bad. I cannot be any other way. I build relationships with people and they know that I honor my commitments and my word is my bond. I give as good as I get … and sometimes more.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I already regret never having carved out time to write books. There are several writing projects I still want to get past the notes stage. My intention is to finish what I started, grab those notes and get going so my creative muse will have her days filled with sharing my knowledge and wisdom.
