Conversations with Raylee Forest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raylee Forest.

Raylee Forest

Raylee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thank you for having me! I’m Raylee Forest, a dark pop singer-songwriter based in California and Vancouver.

I’ve been playing piano and singing since I was very young, and music has always been an important part of my life. But it was only about a year ago that I began releasing my own music, and I haven’t been able to stop ever since.

Since my debut single, “Tired of Waiting”, I’ve released a total of six songs across various platforms. Starting with zero fans, my song “Puppetry” has been streamed over 150,000 times in China alone and has received multiple awards for the best original song. Following that, my song “Mask” has garnered attention from various media outlets, including EarMilk. My latest release, “Trophy Hunter,” is also gaining momentum on Spotify.
I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and I’m determined to keep up the momentum to take my music career to the next level.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many new indie musicians, I also have some challenges along this journey. For example, it takes time for me to find out who would be interested in my music – who they are, where they are, and what they like.

Building connections in the industry is also a gradual process. I started songwriting just a year ago, so I’m relatively new to the music scene. Thus, finding the right connections, industry professionals, and similar artists in my genre can be a challenging and time-consuming task.

Handling the business side of promoting my music can be quite demanding. I wish I could spend all day writing songs without worrying about optimizing marketing campaigns or creating social media posts. However, these tasks are almost essential, much like managing any other small business in today’s world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create dark pop music, and my fans often describe my songs as being “Perfect for the villains in a Disney movie”. I’m passionate about writing characters who are a bit unusual – they can be dark and somewhat psycho. If you’re a Halloween enthusiast, you’ll find my songs intriguing!

I like to think of my music as more of a thriller than just a regular song. I aim for my lyrics to take you on a journey where you can explore the darker aspects of the human heart. Music-wise, I enjoy blending different genres together, ranging from R&B and rap to classical.

I recently released a single called “Trophy Hunter,” which I’m incredibly proud of. It’s a dark and seductive song that combines a unique mix of emotions, playfulness, and sensuality. You can stream it everywhere!

What’s next?
Right now, I’m busy planning my first EP, which will feature five songs and is set to be released early next year. This EP will be an introduction to who I am as an artist.

I am excited to show the world what shaped me, my future vision, and my dream. The songs will touch on various emotions and experiences, giving listeners a peek into my world.

Additionally, I’m making plans to perform more in the local area next year, so stay tuned for updates!
