Meet Fred Eady of Factual Natural

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fred Eady.

Fred, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began when I sold selling candy, chips, and other items in high school. I always would observe my area/surroundings and see what people would need or want. My favorite artist, Gucci mane, said a line in his song, “Rock Solid”, that stuck with me forever: “If you want some money, then you gotta sell SOMETHING” So I did. Anything I could get my hands on.

As a teen, I used to get in trouble in school and my mom used to confiscate my high-end clothes as punishment in high school. My need to wear good clothes to school was still there so I had to make some money some way, shape or form. Eventually, my ideas expanded to phone cases, charges, even small tasks or services.

Around July 2017, I was scrolling on Twitter and they had big topic discussion about customers who had skin breakouts from businesses who sold black soap replicas. So I took it upon myself to do more research and try to understand why people were getting breakouts. I saw a need/demand in natural care that’s REAL. I came across a big block of authentic African black soap from my African vendor (we bonded and are closer now) and got more insight on where it came from, how it’s made, and why it’s great for the skin with results to prove to me that this African soap is the real deal.

So I purchased some raw black soap from an African vender, I realized I purchased too much (4lbs when you really need 6 oz for a months supply). My hustler instincts kicked in and made a post on Twitter putting the extra black soap for sale to the public. I didnt know what I was getting myself into. Once the post was made, it took off and went viral!! That same night I made a logo, came up with a name, and a website. I made $2,000 the first week and after two months, I branched out to different African ingredients like shea butter, black Jamaican castor oil, aloe vera, etc. It’s been great since!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Many of my struggles were outside of my business. I work at UPS as a supervisor that can eat up a lot of my time in the day. I am also a single father so when I’m not working I’m daddying. My biggest struggle were my legal issues. It stopped me from leaving oh of the state for possible interviews and networking purposes. I missed a few pop up shops while arrested as well.

Factual Natural – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Factual Natural is a Natural African hair, skin, and health care business. Small pro black-owned Detroit business. We provide positive ingredients and provide natural remedies for our users. What sets FN apart from other business is that all of our products are imported and raw, not mixed with any chemicals/ingredients. We provide wholesale for customers & businesses as well. The best thing about FN is that we do not sell actual products, we only sell ingredients for the products. So any item that’s purchased can be used, possibly, for making another product.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as a personal margin that you have for yourself to reach peak happiness. My criteria for success are to obtain deals/contracts with major companies, I want a physical store for factual natural and a warehouse for all of the natural ingredients. I want to see Factual Natural all over the US so it can help everybody! I also want everybody around me living good as well. Opening opportunities for people is a big factor of my success too. I cannot feel successful if everybody else around me does not feel successful either. I feel like I have dues to pay to a lot of people in my life so I can’t feel successful until they’ve been paid. I’m not in a rush to be successful because I see it near.
