Meet Anthony Delgado of Obscure Cinema in The Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Delgado.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Anthony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always wanted to make films since I was a kid. I would make up scenes up in my head and play them out with my action figures. As I got a little bit older, I made stop motion films with legos and it was honestly at that point in time that I knew I wanted to do this for a career. Around the time I got into high school, I got into a three years film program. I had a vision of a production company and so I made it, Window Cleaning Aesthetics.

I would not have that name for long though, it was about a half year and I wanted to change it to something that would just ring into people’s brains. Something that would stay and so I came up with Obscure Cinema. From my senior year in high school to now which is going on three years after high school, I have just been working on getting connections and building contacts for people to reach out to me for videos. I shoot short films but I did get into the music video side of films and just kept doing it.

If it wasn’t for my best friend Gabe I probably honestly wouldn’t be where I am today, he introduced me to his co-worker Jordan who I would not know would become my closest friend to this day. Obscure Cinema would be around but it wouldn’t be where I am right now if it wasn’t for meeting Jordan. Jordan introduced me to other artists and from that point on it has been nothing but a blessing. Right now, Obscure Cinema is not just run by myself, sure the idea originated with me but I had asked my closest friend in high school to help me create my vision and it was the smartest choice. I was doing everything on my own and I was stressing but having Garrett helps me make the workflow so much easier. We just get each other and understand the vision we focus and create with our videos. Having Garrett on board has helped me focus more on grabbing clients and collecting contacts for future projects.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, like anything the road is never smooth. Roads always have dips and bumps but it’s about what you do with them. Before I had Garrett on board, it was honestly super hard for me doing everything. It came to the point where I had to call him and ask him for help and I made the smartest choice by asking him to join my team. Ever since having Garret on board, it has been a lighter load on work and we’ve just had that connection to keep going because we know what it feels like for the both of us. We just wanna keep working until we get up there and we aren’t going to stop until it happens. Sure we have not hit the road to success but I do feel like we will and when we do nothing is gonna stop us from creating content and pushing Obscure Cinema to the limits we have.

Please tell us about Obscure Cinema.
At Obscure Cinema, we specialize in music videos for artists, short films, and photography. We aren’t just your typical film production studio. We take time to make sure nothing is ever rushed and everything about our work is surpassing each video. I would say without a doubt, I am most proud of the opportunity we have been given and continued to take them and prove what we are. I’ve been able to go across the country to the Midwest to shoot music videos and honestly, I know someone at my age can not really say they did that for some work. Obscure Cinema will continue to prove what we are by showing what we can do. We strive for success because for Garrett and I knowing that the video we did for our client not only surpassed our liking but also was above expectations to our clients. Some markers we make sure we hit are quality over quantity. If the quality is there then you do not need so much footage. But we heavily make sure we hit the quality of our work before anything else. Quality over quantity is always in the back of our minds between us both.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel like I have not really experienced bad luck. I never see anything as bad, everything happens for a reason and when it does, you choose to make what you want with it. Garret and I both have made everything possible because we share the same end goal. As most people in LA, the goal is to make it big, and what better area to do so than LA. Whatever opportunity we have or chance of something happening, we take it big or small. I feel like just taking every chance you can help improve our company in the long run.
