Meet Alaïa Parhizi and Aidan Nelson of Wonzimer in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaïa Parhizi and Aidan Nelson.

Alaia Parhizi and Aidan Nelson started a gallery about two years ago, with just a small hole in the wall location in Koreatown, but have recently relocated to the heart of downtown with a space more than double the size of our last one! Over these two years, we have been working with emerging artists from all facets of life! Our name Wonzimer means “living room” in German and this is what our determined vision has been to create a Gallery where everyone can feel at home and welcome. As well as having the ability to view and appreciate art in a living room setting! We are very proud that we have to the point where people from divergently different backgrounds meet in our Gallery and connect on the premise of Art! We have come from just having a name and an idea to facilitating a variety of different artistic talents, from fashion shows to short film screenings, music events and even poetry nights we have made an impact on the emerging scene of the LA art world.

Has it been a smooth road?
We have learned alot from trial and error, at our previous location we lacked parking, which made it hard to get to appeal to a certain crowd, as well as being two very young gallerists we’ve had to deal with some stigmas that comes with our age. However, we are determined to not let anything stop us!

Please tell us about Wonzimer.
We are an Art Gallery! We specialize in culturally relevant art exhibitions of emerging artists! We are the most proud of bringing different people from all ages backgrounds and races together in one space to coexist in peace and appreciate the art that impacts their life’s in different ways! Our gallery is set apart by its authenticity, we appreciate all art and go through all submissions our selves, and have given the opportunity to show artwork to a big variety of artists. The other thing that sets us apart from other galleries is our lounge area where people can sit down on victorian couches play some vinyl records and conversate about the art that they have just seen.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We imagine the art world becoming more internet-based, while we plan to emphasize the importance of a physical space where one can view the art in and also for the cultural exchange that comes from attending Art Exhibitions! We expect the trend of a gallery to be more experience-based and want to spearhead that idea with our location.
