Today we’d like to introduce you to Ektor Angelomatis.
Ektor, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Los Angeles has always been there. And I found myself here ten years ago. I was inspired by the culture, the people, the streets, the underlying contradictions. Having grown up in Athens, Greece, I frequently roamed the Greek countryside with an old film camera that I had “stolen” from my grandfather’s attic.
Since I was young, I have gotten into all sorts of creative outlets. Throughout the years, I have played the bass in a couple of bands, studied theatre, acted professionally for many years, and learned to dance Argentinian tango – all to my father’s dismay! When I moved to LA, I needed a new outlet. I picked up my camera again and realized just how much I’d missed it, and how passionate I was about photography.
As an extrovert through and through, working with other creatives on my art made the most sense to me, thus fashion and boudoir became the basis of my expressive works. And that is how Malktime Photography was born.
Today, I work with designers from around the globe, from LA to London, Boston to Paris. From conceptual ad campaigns to personalized photo sessions, I have the privilege of working with talented designers, stylists and makeup artists, sourcing cutting-edge garments, and scouting unique venues for each project.
Whether he is photographing a team of models in the latest collection of an internationally renowned costume designer or working with a private client on her personal boudoir project, creating artful, expressive images and fine-tuning the smallest details of each and every frame is his top concern.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
“No matter who you are beware of the Vogue”. That would sum it up. Fashion and boudoir is for everyone. Everyone. There is no such thing as tasteless designs. No such thing as unphotogenic people. No such thing as non-sensual beings. Thus, whenever I shoot I help people feel and understand that, I tailor the shoot to the designer’s pieces and the model’s personality. I let the clothing and the models speak for themselves and lead the way through the conceptual guidelines I set for each shoot. When people see my work, I hope that they can understand that there are no limits to one’s ambitions and dreams, that fashion and boudoir encompasses all, regardless of shape or style.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Just get out there and talk to people. Have a coffee. Start a conversation. Smile. Smile back. Nod. Send that message via social media. Say hi. Just get yourself out there in any way and connect. Make it happen. You will be amazed how thirsty people are for a good chat.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
At the moment my website (malktime.com) and Instagram (@malktime_photography) are the best way to see my work. I often exhibit my work at galleries around the world, with the most recent one being in my hometown of Athens, Greece in 2018. Subscribing to my newsletter, through my website, is the best way to find out about future exhibits. And all the photographs in my portfolio are available to purchase as prints.
