Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Puthawala.
Candice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I used to live my life on a fast forward button trying to get it all done! I worked for over 18 years in the fashion industry. If you saw me, then I would have been running in heels with lots of bags in hand and my young daughter in tow. I barely had time to breathe let alone meditate. I always strived for a balanced life, but I struggled to achieve it.
By living this way, I burned out my entire body, and as a result, I became ill. I was tired, I had inflammation, candida, thyroid issues, anxiety and I had no more inspiration in my life. My health was off from living a life in constant high stress. We are not made to live in this state. As a result, my body went into flight or fight mode for many years. This is how our bodies and minds can become toxic and ill.
Finally, I left the fashion world to heal myself and to change my life. In the fashion industry, all the focus was beauty on the outside. It wasn’t until I shifted my lens to focus on beauty from the inside out that I began to heal. I found myself drawn into the wellness world and went to the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and became a certified Holistic Health Coach.
I then enrolled at Matthew Kenney culinary in Venice, CA and became a plant-based chef. Some of the major healers in my life was having self-love and being kind to myself. I also went sugar-free, added collagen and adaptogens to my diet. That is when I started to calm down the stress in my body and heal.
While I was working on healing and going sugar-free, I went out looking for a yummy sugar-free chocolate. I couldn’t find what I was looking for. While I was in culinary school, it was the perfect opportunity to create my dream chocolate. This is where I came up with the concept of Beauty Bar Chocolate. It’s my fashion meets wellness background.
Beauty Bar Chocolates were born out of a need for something sweet and healthy to eat.
It’s hard to find chocolate that is made with healthy ingredients which also have brain & beauty benefits. I hand-selected the best ingredients in the market. They are free of anything toxic and filled with all things beautiful!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Changing my dreams & direction in life has been extremely rewarding and uncomfortable for me. After leaving my almost two-decade career in fashion, I promised myself I would go after everything that scared me. My motto became ‘get comfortable with being uncomfortable.”
The biggest struggles have been getting out of my own head and trusting myself. In the fashion world, it was all about looking perfect at all times. I decided it was time to go inside and focus on my beauty from the inside out. I wanted to do public speaking and inspire other women to feel amazing and heal just like I did.
I was petrified and signed up for Toast Masters and got comfortable with using my voice and public speaking. I now speak at many wellness events which I absolutely love.
Launching Beauty Bar Chocolate was a brand new world for me. I knew nothing about owning a chocolate company or becoming a chocolatier. I put one foot in front of the other and have been figuring it out step by step.
When you have a passion for what you are doing it starts to flow. I never knew that flow before. It was much harder before working in a career that no longer served me. I continue to push myself and to go after everything that scares me. When you step outside your limiting beliefs, it’s amazing what you can do in your life.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in good luck as much as I believe in working towards your goals. I do think it takes passion to make it happen. I had a vision with my brand, and I have taken the steps to make it happen. I spent months perfecting the yummiest chocolate, and it shows in my product.
I also believe people want to eat foods that make them feel good and are not filled with chemicals. I would say having passion and goals is what it takes to succeed in your life and business.
