Meet Sherman Oaks Photographer: Alex Dean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Dean.

Alex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became a photographer because I have so many interests. This was a skill I could use in anything from fly fishing, filmmaking, sports, and music. I started in college where I realized that people I knew were making a living doing something I have always been interested in and I thought, “I could do that.” I think I have a long way to go and with an industry that is always evolving, there is no shortage of education outlets.

Has it been a smooth road?
Anything involving art is never a smooth road. It’s a subjective business and at the end of the day you try and get paid for what you love. There is a lot of decision making on the steps you have to take to get paid to do art. There has been many times that I have started venturing down a path and get halfway there and realize it is not fulfilling. Like most things, it is all about trial and error.

How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
Growing up I was an athlete. I played competitive soccer and wanted to be the best in everything I did…. That hasn’t changed much.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite Childhood memory is going to my Grandparents cabin in Grand Lake, CO and learning how to fly fish and take care of boats.

So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
My plans for the future consist of not getting burnt out. I would love to work for a non-profit and use my art to give back.
