Meet Valley Photographer: Alizee Lutz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alizee Lutz.

Alizee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started in France where I come from. I was 15 when photography became an important part of my life. I did the first exposition in the village I grew up , Saint Tropez, I was 18. I left saint Tropez for Paris when I was 20 to explore the side of fashion photography! There I experience a lot! I did models and fashion shows even street photography during fashion week it’s actually the best for a start-up photographer!! I also met my husband in Paris who is also a photographer from San Jose and came in Paris for the same reason than me. After 3 years he wanted to come back in America so I followed him ! I was so surprised how easy it was to find jobs in the photography industry here in LA!! So now I m a full-time photographer and love it! Now that’s the commercial part of it but I want to do fashion and here in LA it’s not that easy … But I find MSA models who loved my work and give me great models anytime I want so I can still practice my passion and discovered a new one the beauty photography!

Has it been a smooth road?
In Paris, it wasn’t a job I wasn’t making any money! It’s really hard there if you have no mentor or contacts .. I guess it’s the same here in LA but it’s easier to find people. But Paris is also a great school if you survive her you will survive LA ! My challenge arriving here was the fact fashion is not a big thing here… So I had to build an entirely new portfolio in the commercial industry.

Have you ever felt like giving up?
Yes, of course, many times!

Being a photographer or an artist for a living is HARD! Ok, you can take a vacation whenever you want but there is no guaranty you will have money for it! In Paris, I need a job on the side and sometimes I was just desperate and thought I will never succeed! And I arrived in America and find my first job as photographer in a week after I start looking!! I was so happy! But then it was an E-commerce job I, not quiet fashion like I was dreaming of … So my business in E-commerce keeps growing my hopes to become a great fashion photographer was falling … Even more in LA where fashion is a little dead … And just before I was thinking of quitting those hopes I started collaborating with MSA models and been able to work with professional models it’s enough to give me the desire to keep going! Let’s not forget that in our industry the secret is to be patient and passionate!

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Take every opportunity possible even the free ones actually especially the free ones! Give you the time to make your hopes happening, patience and hard work will be your strength!

What are you looking forward to?
I guess the future is already exciting on its own but when I see what I was able to do in less than 2 years the future sounds like a big and new adventure!!
