Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Bichai.
Hi Tony, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was exposed to construction at a young age as my uncles were general contractors. I always had a knack to build things as a kid like K’nex or legos. I gained a lot of inspiration from them especially since they immigrated to the United States from Aswan, Egypt to start this successful business. I feel as though Bichai Construction honors them as well as my parents for guiding me to get to this point.
I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a minor in General Management. I also played intercollegiate soccer, so stadium builds would be a dream for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Before I was able to start on my own, I had to gain valuable experience working for other companies and learning the industry from the ground up. Along the way, there were a lot of challenges — not just the hard work, but also dealing with doubters. I had people, including my old supervisor, tell me that I would burn out or that this business wasn’t cut out for me. But I used that as motivation to keep pushing forward, stay focused, and prove to myself that I could overcome those obstacles. Those early struggles taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of trusting the process. Ironically, I bumped into that same supervisor at the gym last month and was wearing my construction t-shirt with my business name on it. Felt pretty damn good!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re a full-service residential and commercial general contractor. Lately, we’ve been super busy building ADUs — they’ve definitely been in high demand — but we also like to take on fun and challenging commercial projects when they come our way. In the past, we’ve built a nightclub, and right now we’re in the middle of building a gym.
What really sets us apart from other contractors is how we communicate and treat our clients. We know the construction industry has a reputation for contractors being hard to reach, flakey, or just tough to deal with — and we do everything we can to break that stereotype. We’re big on communication, staying transparent, and treating people with respect. At the end of the day, we’re real people — and we want our clients to feel comfortable and know they can trust us throughout the process.
My favorite part of the job is meeting new clients and hearing their stories beyond the construction need. But for them to depend on us to change their lives with our services is very special to me. We love what we do, and we take a lot of pride in delivering not only quality work but also a good experience for our clients.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I lost my Mom in 2023. She is such a great inspiration to my business. I used to see her commenting on my job progress posts things like Way to go Tony! or Good job! I really miss her a lot, so a big fuel to becoming successful is to make her proud that she raised a good man. Above all she always taught me to be a good person. God rewards those that are good people, so when I meet a client, I first of all want to humanize myself and show them that I am just like them. Trying to make a living and help each other out in the community. This life is tough. We cannot survive alone. We need each other, so I would never want to add to anyone’s stresses. Construction and building is a great way for me to help others alleviate any of the stressors of life. Respect above all. Miss you Mom!
