Meet Krystal Tini of My Soul Mat in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Tini.

Krystal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In my 12 years in LA, a lot of that time was very trying. Auditions, dance gigs, hair and makeup, acting, wardrobe styling… I have done it all with tons of space in between to nearly lose my sanity, or maybe I have, a few times!

From working with celebrities to rock stars like Fleetwood Mac, to producing my own film with my sister and the insanely hilarious and talented Cheri Oteri, things were never dull! But, once my dance career was winding down, and jobs with my other skills were few in between, I knew I needed something more fulfilling and inspiring for myself and others.

My company My Soul Mat (yoga mats) was created as a solution to my ever-moving mind of clutter. I started yoga to help change that. To calm my mind and all of the constant bullshit I told myself every day. I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety, and even diagnosed with borderline personality disorder recently. All of these factors led me to the importance of affirmations and utilizing them in my life. If I just had positive statements to look at in class with gorgeous images and colors staring back at me, I would focus on those mantras. And it worked. And it is working for so many people who have purchased our mats. That’s where the journey began and my sister was right there with me taking the leap of faith to design something that didn’t exist. We are still so much in awe of the people around the world who adore our creations. Like, shit, WE did this?! Its been such a fun walk on the road to healing while helping others at the same time. We are currently partnering with yoga retreats and wellness centers which couldn’t make us happier.

Coming from a glamorous background in dance, acting, hair and makeup (currently on tour with the legendary Fleetwood Mac!), this product tells that story…of art, character, and light. We wanted to inspire, and this journey has just begun for us with infinite possibilities.

The future is bright and I’m so happy to say I have amazing people around me to carry me when I need it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always struggles along the way. Ugh. Unfortunately. The biggest struggle is financing a company launch yourself, my sister included. We self-funded the start of this company ourselves, and to our surprise the money REALLY didnt go far. We assumed we would sell out the first week of launching. Not the case. We hired and fired companies that promised us the stars with My Soul Mat, throwing away LOTS of money because we were so new to being business owners, and had to fall a few times to navigate the path of being entrepreneurs. We are STILL learning. It’s a crazy process. So yes, struggles have presented themselves and we are very carefully nurturing them to their fullest potentials so we can fly with this company.

Please tell us about My Soul Mat.
We are the only yoga mat company with affirmations and imagery combined. It’s so incredibly fulfilling to get messages daily from our customers telling us how much they adore their mats. They truly are art pieces, so we also get the: “I lay My Soul Mat in my office because I love looking at it!” Or “I hung my mat on my wall because it inspires me so much…” things like that make my day and the craziness of having your own company so worthwhile.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we started over, I would a lot for more money to advertise, for sure. You can’t make sales without it! Researching that area more and for sure would have hired a business consultant!!
