Travis Sanders shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Travis , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I would say I am walking a path. It’s taken me a few years to find my voice in the acting profession, but I have a clear motivation for what I want and what I’m looking for out of myself. I’m learning new things about myself every day, not just how to become a better actor, but also how to become a better person.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Travis Sanders, and I’m an actor originally from Windham, New Hampshire. I now reside in Los Angeles, California.
Beyond my primary passion of acting, I have always loved sports. I played basketball growing up and was captain of my cross country team in middle school and high school.
My love for acting began when I watched behind-the-scenes documentaries on classic movies like Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars. In 2007, I was invited by one of my friends to see him act in a play. I enjoyed watching how he was getting reactions from the audience and engaging them through honest storytelling. The following year, in 8th grade, I auditioned for my first play called Radio Daze. From that moment on, I pursued acting and went on to receive my Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts from Dean College in Franklin, MA. A few years after I graduated, I applied to be a tour guide at Warner Brothers to begin my film career in LA. Since then, I’ve worked on many major studio lots in various positions, and I consider myself quite fortunate to still be living in Los Angeles as a working actor.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I was in middle school, I spent every summer training for cross country. By the time I arrived for practice in the fall, I remember beating most of my teammates on every long training run. It showed me at a young age how hard work pays off.
As the season was about to start, the coaches began to look for who would be the next captain of the team. After one of our meets, one of the coaches brought me to the sidelines and explained how I was going to be captain. In terms of power, the moment felt fantastic, but it also came with the realization that I had to be an example to my teammates when under pressure.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I have found that when I’m
going through a hard time, that my true passion for what I’m doing shines through. This has occurred in my life, sports and my acting. Those times, while tough and hard to appreciate, have made me a better person and as much I don’t like the moment when it occurs, I know it’s going to improve me in the long run and I’m grateful for that. It’s almost in a way like a love hate relationship.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I don’t try to be anything I’m not. I strive to be honest to myself, especially when I’m in the public eye. I’m very grateful for exciting moments in my life, and whenever I’m able to share these moments with a group of people or even just myself, I am happy. We are in an age right now where social media tends show a very small portion of life. In other words, we are only showing a brief moment of our lives to the world — usually a good moment — when we might not be as happy as what we’re choosing to show.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
To put it simply I feel at peace when I go for walk outside and living in place like Los Angeles the weather is always great. I especially like walking in neighborhoods were it’s quiet and you can enjoy the surrounding area.
