Suede Silver of LA on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Suede Silver. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Suede, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Proud of my convoluted a$$ studio… it’s such a cool setup but so unique that theres no resources to turn to that could help me figure it out. It looks like the millennium falcon from the back… but it’s worth it and everyone has a ton of fun with it!

I won’t fully get into the tech weeds here, but with the setup we can record live to any of the tape machines / cassette tapes, record just to the computer, send music from the computer to any of the tape machines, record any of the tapes to the computer, anddd record to a grip of cassette tapes in real time to pass out to people for shows and events!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Music producer, turned tattoo artist, tattooing blew up so for 8 years it was the main focus, and now it’s time to get back to music and building something with more reach and purpose.

It feels weird having a great reputation as a tattoo artist and being known for that and now having to “prove myself” as seemingly a new producer when I really have twice as much experience in music

I’ll never stop being a tattoo artist, but I feel I’ve taken tattooing as far as I’ll ever desire to, but haven’t done that with music so I’m excited for the new chapter

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Like everyone I’m super ADHD, which creatively has led me to hoping around projects and always chasing new shiny inspiration. Thats not all bad, thats how I found tattooing… but now my aspirations are much bigger require a lot more focus and saying “no” to a lot more good things. Its taking a lot of practice, but its time to lock in

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Off the top of my head… not really. Well thats not fair, there’s a lot of people that attentively try to listen but I never really feel heard, which makes my stories feel like a burden. Everyones just so caught up in their own lives… I’m guilty of it too don’t get me wrong, but yeah especially in LA everyone listens with an agenda. I really try not to.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
100%

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
He was “a kid who couldn’t read good” in Zoolander
