We recently had the chance to connect with Rachael Cappuccino and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, a typical day looks like getting up, getting my kids ready for school, dropping them off, getting a quick workout in, then heading to work. It’s a chaotic season of life right now with a 5 year old and a 3.5 year old AND running a business, but I’m making it work!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Conejo Valley native and a Mom of two. I grew up playing soccer. My love of sports combined with my passion for helping people led me to pursue a career in physical Therapy. After practicing in outpatient orthopedics for a few years after grad school, I decided to specialize in pelvic floor physical therapy. I started Cappuccino Physical Therapy after the births of my two children because I realized the lack of care for women, especially moms, dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction. birth, and I wanted to be the one to bring relief to these women who are often neglected and gaslight by their providers.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
When I started my practice, I had a networking meeting with a local doula who is well known in the Conejo Valley. When I told her my story and my mission, she told me that I was going to grow my practice very quickly. At the time, I didn’t believe her because I was a new business owner, not sure if I could be a business owner, but she was right! I am forever thankful for that meeting and for her confidence in my mission.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say be confident, and just go for it! I was always a passive child, but have had to find my voice and confidence as a business owner.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
That all pregnant and postpartum women should be prescribed pelvic floor physical therapy. Birth is the most athletic event women will endure, and prehab to prepare for labor and delivery is imperative. You train for a marathon, why wouldn’t you train for birth? And birth is an injury to your body, whether you have a vaginal delivery or a C-section. Any other injury (major knee surgery, hamstring tear, etc) is an immediate referral to physical therapy. The same should be true of birth. Women who take a rehabilitative approach to postpartum recovery are setting themselves up for lifetime success.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think they would miss how I care and advocate for them. Women’s health is such a neglected field and I am so proud to be an advocate for it.
