We recently had the chance to connect with no suits no suits and have shared our conversation below.
Hi no suits, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yooo, we are no suits. For us no suits is about creating our own lane and rejecting the idea of conformity. We have nothing against suits as an article of clothing, but our philosophy is to not follow the suit mentality.
Ultimately, we are three friends from San Diego who met in class and haven’t stopped making tunes together. Musically, we keep it pretty funky and like to have a good time.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment in my life, my buddy and I were renting an apartment, and we couldn’t make ends meet. We ended up bunking in the same room, and Airbnb ‘ing out our whole house to pay the rent and bills and keep pursuing the things we wanted to. It was a fun experience, meeting new people from all over the world. But it really made me understand how hard I need to work and the sacrifices I need to make to become successful. – Saj
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Not give up but one time I was feeling kind of burnt out and was talking to my mom about it. I was working a construction job for 8 hours, and then I’d go to my job as a busboy at an Italian restaurant and would work on music any time in between. She said, “Things might be rough right now, but think about how much better the story will be when you can look back on it. It wouldn’t be nearly as interesting if everything just worked out right away.” That kinda stuck with me, and now I can tell that story in interviews. – Reed
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
It’s a version of you, but not the whole ensalada. We are pretty chill dudes and have lived by the mantra of taking what we do seriously but not taking ourselves too seriously. I think we convey that well.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
In LA this year, we experienced the fires, and at one point, we were on the verge of evacuation. It presented a similar question of what you would pack in your suitcase if you only had 30 minutes? I realized I would bring my signed Brokeback Mountain poster and my laptop. If we take away possessions, names, and roles, it would be our relationships with family and friends. – Max
