Story & Lesson Highlights with Michi Sharples of Virgil Village/ Silverlake

Michi Sharples shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Michi, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy is the positive thinking and doing of our life experience with each other. You can choose to be positive or you can choose to be negative. I have definitely chosen the positive path in my life. What you put in is what you get back. It is time to raise our vibration and be kind to each other and positive lifting each other up. Let’s go!!!!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Michi Sharples, CEO of Vintage Vortex VV, a vintage clothing mall With several vendors that have stores within our shop. My husband and I recently invested in Hollywood and bought a building in Virgil Village. I’ve had my business for 12 years and now we are looking forward to many more years to come in this wonderful community. You walk inside and it is your destination for vintage clothing shopping. We have vintage clothing from 1910 to Y2K. It’s a fun experience to walk in to the 90s rave bumping inside and the best vintage clothing in Los Angeles to get lost in the Vortex!!!!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship with my husband. The night I met him I was at a front 242 concert band from Germany from the 80s. Of course I would meet my future husband there we went by ourselves and met at the end of the night and the rest is history. I am free to sing dance be a businesswoman, a loving wife, and he always keeps me grounded and protected. Having a covenant with God and him has shaped everything in my life.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
In my 30s, I hit rock bottom. The recession hit. I didn’t have a job barely had a place to live, and it felt like the world was crumbling around me. Really the only thing I could do was cry out to God for help. If life was easy, most would have God in back seat, but I believe that through our troubles and tribulations is when we draw near and I have been blessed ever since. There are days that I struggle, but I just take a deep breath and put 1 foot in front of the other and keep the faith.. Every morning we wake up as an opportunity.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I discovered the magic of Thrifting back in high school, diving into different areas of fashion, and instantly falling in love. I wanted to stand out from the crowd, to be a canvas of creativity and uniqueness. That passion evolved into Vintage Vortex VV where every piece is a one of a kind treasure.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
The Holy Spirit inside me. Peace, love and understanding remain.
