Story & Lesson Highlights with MaeThePirate of Hollywood

We recently had the chance to connect with MaeThePirate and have shared our conversation below.

MaeThePirate, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’m avoiding is the battle with self image, perfectionism, fear of judgement and never being enough. I strive to live a life of authenticity, truly and fully be myself, without comparing myself to others or thinking that I’m not enough! To quote my song Cameo, we are just a fraction of time in the universe, and we never know whats coming next. I like to live my life like every day could be my last, and I don’t want to mince words or cover up any part of me, I want to celebrate all the good and the bad that comes through life, you never know who could relate.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am MaeThePirate I write music and play the cello and produce and work at a recording studio! My favorite passtimes are writing cello music, recording, and playing video games. I make videos and songs about my experiences in life with mental illness, relationships, the internet, and more!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That it was a crime for being “too much” or “too loud” or “annoying” or “forward” because all of these traits are the ones that make me a great performer!

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Singing! I have a distinct memory of singing at the doctors office as a child, I sang “raindrops on roses” to myself as I was getting blood taken, it not only helped me forget my fear, but made all the doctors and nurses laugh that I decided to sing in times of stress. I feel like this showed me at a young age how powerful music can be to uplift any situation.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Be honest, even though it hurts. The only way to truly fix and issue is to face it head-on, and though we never want to hurt others, sometimes the best thing you can do for someone you love is to speak the truth even though it hurts. A lot of growth comes from addressing issues, and the only way to address problems is by knowing they’re there in the first place

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Every day I tap dance to work! I love my job dearly, I get to record artists and actors and voice over and instruments, I truly have my dream job and every day I live with whimsy wonder and excitement, I am truly blessed to be where I am every day.
