Story & Lesson Highlights with Juda LaCount of Inglewood

Juda LaCount shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Juda, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Who are you learning from right now?
I find myself learning from my peers. Whether it’s my skate family, my school family, or my cultural families, there is always something that somebody I know is doing that impacts our communities and the world in some way. I’m somewhat of a curious, ever-learning soul; this is a good and sometimes bad thing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
So I go by Juda, and currently I am the leader of the Titans Skate Collective, which is a roller-skating club based in Southern California. We are very small, but we are made up of parents, business people, and creative souls. We have multiple sponsorships and collaborations with various companies, and we are very active on social media. Outside of skating, I also operate a design business called GRCD Services, shorthand for Grace Coding, with Grace being my grandmother’s first name, so the name is an ode to her life and legacy. Between both of these ventures, I also hand-make merchandise and brainstorm ways to elevate both endeavors.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say my mother, who is my biggest supporter and confidant. She knows my struggles, successes, failures, and high moments throughout life. To be an adult, right, haha, as kids we don’t have a concept of how much it takes to raise children, be successful, and manage your own life and your wants. My mother taught me the ethics of working hard, having an education, and never settling for less. She is my superwoman, and she also recently graduated with her Master’s. She’s one of the main reasons I decided to revisit my education path, and now I’m on track to graduate with my Associate’s in Cybersecurity in Spring 2026. She constantly reminds me to push myself and to realize how valuable time is.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me how to appreciate the small things in life. Waking up, breathing, every meal, every car ride, just the act of existing above ground and beyond confinement. A lot of people don’t like to discuss the struggle, but for me, it shaped my ethos and my mindset on how I approach many things in life. Suffering isn’t needed on the path to success, but it does help you to stay aware of how quickly life changes and can be a reminder to constantly strive for the life you want.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
This is a good one. I would say the belief that humanity can achieve true equity and access for all. Regardless of what our past and current history has shown us, I still have faith that one day we will all be able to truly benefit from this world and what we have created. I’d rather spend time on things that can connect and empower us as opposed to what divides us. Being realistic is admitting that there is much work to be done, but I think with each passing generation, we get a little better at being, well, better humans.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Empathy, understanding that we all have faults, but we try the best we can to be the best versions of ourselves daily. We try, and we try hard. I notice this in everyone that I come across, and it is a gift at times and a curse at times. I believe that everyone starts blank, similar to a canvas before it is painted. Our experiences and life events shape us into the people we are.
