Story & Lesson Highlights with Juan Pablo Castiblanco

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Juan Pablo Castiblanco . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Juan Pablo, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
As an actor and writer , and as artists in general , many of us navigate an inner sense of impostorhood that can distance us from the process and obscure what we are meant to share with the world.
Having learned to transform doubt into momentum, this feels like the right moment to bring more of my work into view.
I’m using this time to speak about several projects currently being developed in my native Colombia, while intentionally opening space for creative connections with the U.S. and the wider global community ,bringing these visions to life through collaboration.
This new year marks a transition: taking my craft to a higher level, using these platforms as a bridge to what has been quietly built, and welcoming those who wish to engage , as audiences, collaborators, or fellow creators.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Juan Pablo Castiblanco. I am a bilingual Colombian actor, proudly Latino.
I trained as an actor in both Colombia and the United States, with a strong focus on theater, film, and television, including professional training in Los Angeles at the New York Film Academy (NYFA).
My work includes the internationally awarded film Nowhere (2020) in which I played one of the leading roles and which is currently available on Prime Video. I have also appeared in the Netflix historical series Secuestro del Vuelo 601, as well as in the feature film Enemy in the Mirror. I am currently attached to several projects in development and pre-production.

Experiences from my past and present, stories from my family, historical moments from my country and Latin America, as well as my time living in the United States have deeply shaped me. They are the starting point for the films and screenplays I am developing through the creation of “Solo Films”, a project through which I seek not only to complement my work as an actor, but also to give voice to minorities, people, and stories that deserve to become universal.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the first time I stepped onto a stage as a child.
Standing there, I realized my voice could be heard, and that inhabiting someone else’s life could be an act of empathy, giving voice to stories beyond my own.
Years later, I found the courage to tell my mother that I wanted to be an actor for the rest of my life, and writing followed as the natural extension of the dream that began in that first performance.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
As a child of Latin America, a land full of hardworking single mothers, the easiest path would have been to complain about what happened to us, about how my mother and I were left to face life alone, about the hardships that made me ask, “Why me?”
But then I realized that all of it, every struggle, every loss, every question shaped me into who I am.
My life, my experiences, my story … they fill my path with truth, growth, and a desire to create. It is what led me to become a storyteller, whether through acting or writing, crafting stories that resonate, that reflect the lives of many.
More losses came, choices had to be made, struggles became constant. I would not wish them on anyone, yet they remain a living reality. I was given a story of resilience even before I was born. It is that story that drives me—not to stay silent, but to speak, to express myself fully, from my soul, from my truth.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Haha, I’d have to ask them, but I think they would say it’s about hard work and dignity…
That no matter how long the journey toward your dreams may be, if you build them day by day, treat others with respect along the way, and stay true to yourself, you are living a life that matters.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am certain that I am doing what I was born to do, a path that, at times, is full of uncertainty. But I know this is not merely something I was born with; it is a choice I have made, guided faithfully by both heart and reason. I share this as an invitation to challenge ourselves to pursue our dreams. If we believe we were born for something, why not follow that path?

And finally, knowing that I continue to build this path through what I love to do, I would like to extend that invitation to connect with readers through Bold Journey and our social media—to discover more of the stories in development, erase lines on the map, and create a network of support among readers, colleagues, and anyone interested in creating together.
