Story & Lesson Highlights with Dr. Jennifer Keagle of Northeast LA

Dr. Jennifer Keagle shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jennifer, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think everyone believes that Plastic surgery is what they see on TV. Beverly HIlls doctors who only do cosmetic procedures, charging an arm and a leg and patients looking much different than they did before (or a little weird).

Plastic in Plastic Surgery stands for the greek work, Plastikos- which means to reconstruct. or to mold and form. Some people think it means plastic because that’s how some people look; untrue.

Plastic surgery runs the gamut from aesthetic (cosmetic) procedures to reconstruction for cancer, burns, etc. Plastic surgeons are the ones doing face and limb transplants.

In my practice I do all kinds of Plastic Surgery: aesthetic and reconstruction. I also see all types of patients because my job is to serve the community, however that looks.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Dedicated to building warm, open relationships with her patients, Dr. Jennifer Keagle is one of the most credentialed of all Plastic Surgeons in Los Angeles and one of the few women Plastic Surgeons in the area. She is double-board certified in General and Plastic Surgery with subspecialty training in Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial surgery. She specializes in Aesthetic surgery of the face and body including face lifts, breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, eyelid surgery, and “Mommy makeovers”. She also performs Botox, Daxxify, RHA, juvederm and Coolsculpting in her Northeast LA office. The other focus of her practice is reconstruction: facial anomalies and differences, trauma, scar treatment, rhinoplasty, otoplasty and cleft lip and palate surgery.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Always a reader/studier (read: nerd). I have wanted to be a doctor since the age of 9 ; after watching MASH. I don’t think I ever concerned myself with who the world told me to be.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It’s going to be OK. Don’t stress so much. It will all work out in the end… (I also tell my kids this)

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
This is a huge thing in my industry.
There is always a new machine/ injection, etc.
I am not an early adopter. I wait until there is sufficient scientific evidence showing that this treatment is good. I will sometimes wait for an endorsement from my society, ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) to begin offering a new treatment, surgery, injection, etc.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was an excellent parallel parker!
Seriously, that I was a loving mother and partner, that I tried to be fair and honest in my profession and did the best that I could.
