Rising Stars: Meet Louise Rosager of Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Rosager.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Denmark, but I started my creative life as a classical actor on the East Coast. Even in my early 20s my dreams were an integral part of my process of character development. I would get cast in a role, and right away begin to have very vivid dreams that seemed to ‘comment’ on the character I was playing. I spent a lot of time writing stories based on my dreams and embodying the figures that visited in my dreams, all of which informed my acting and other creative work on a deep level.
In my late 20s I left acting behind and went to LA to write and produce television and film. Having done nothing else, I sold my first show-idea to HBO as an EP, which paved the way for me to work with some of the best writers and talent in the industry. Here, too, I would use dreams very consciously and specifically to develop my content and also to help other creatives connect to their greatest potential.
Around that time, I met my Dream Work mentors, Kim Gillingham here in LA and Steven Aizenstat, the founder of the Dream Tending program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. I studied with both for many years, and this education, combined with my own creative exploration, ultimately led me to my current life as a creative coach and dream coach. I now run coaching programs for writers, I teach an ongoing acting class here in LA and offer one-on-one coaching, designed to help artists and creatives reach their greatest potential, through accessing the power and guidance of their dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As any creative in LA will tell you, there are good times and bad. In my 20s and even into my 30s I struggled with objectification. I was always the youngest person in the room, and frequently the only woman. Even though I had a lot to offer, I had to fight to be taken seriously, to remain involved and often more seasoned people would appropriate my ideas and pass them on as their own.

Throughout everything, what kept me steady was always the inner guidance the dreams would provide. Whenever I go through a struggle I ask for a dream to show me what I need to know. And without fail, the dreams will guide me, support me and keep me on track. I always say happiness is not the absence of struggle, it is knowing, in your bones, that whatever struggle life presents you with, it is not going to be too big for you. My ongoing work with dreams gives me this awareness, and I am passionate to pay it forward by helping younger artists take ownership of their creative lives as they navigate the industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a creative coach and Dream Tender. I help my clients tap into the infinite power and potential of their dreams, to elevate their creative work and connect to their authentic voice. I offer a year-long coaching program for writers, teach an ongoing acting class and host mostly Dream Labs, where I lead participants through a deep-dive into their dreams so they can access all the wisdom and power they hold. I also offer one-on-one sessions.
I’m told my superpower is my ability to bring out people’s best creative work, and to help clients access the courage to be vulnerable and brilliant – in my book, you can’t be one without the other.
What sets me apart from others is the container I create. I believe true, authentic creative work is only possible if the artist feels safe. Good art requires the artist to dive into deep, sometimes uncomfortable areas of the human experience. In order to do that and not become re-traumatized in the process, it is essential that the artist feels secure, confident and not judged. My main job is to provide this foundation of safety, and then coach the artist from there.
I am most proud of my ability to always lead my clients back to who they truly are. Every session or class I teach, I see my clients experience this profound rediscovery of the lost parts of themselves. It’s an incredible gift to get to facilitate that for a living.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
If we don’t know where we want to go, it’s difficult to identify the help we need to get there. So know who you are, know your values and what you want to bring to the world. I’ve found that if I stay open and true to myself and have the courage to ask for what I need, people are incredibly willing to help.
I have always been amazed by the synchronicities of life. Random coincidences leading to new jobs and new possibilities. It has taught me never to judge people or situations – what, at first, may have seemed like a setback or a negative event has often been the exact thing that got me to the best opportunities.
