Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Booker.
Hi Leah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, my name is Leah, and I’m a 25 year old mom, fiancé, and content creator based in Los Angeles. My journey into content creation actually started pretty naturally. I’ve always been someone who was constantly on my phone taking pictures, recording little moments, trying new products, and sharing pieces of my life so one day I started thinking, why not turn something I already enjoy doing into something bigger?
I decided to take content creation seriously because I realized there was so much potential in creating from your phone. I’ve always felt like there was so much money and opportunity in the digital world, but so many people, including myself at one point, overlook it because it doesn’t feel like a “real” career. I wanted to challenge that mindset for myself.
As a mom, a lot of my content naturally became centered around lifestyle, motherhood, beauty, wellness, and everyday life. I love creating content that feels relatable and authentic rather than overly staged. I want people to be able to watch my content and feel like they’re talking to a friend or getting a genuine recommendation from someone they trust.
Getting to where I am today has really been about consistency. I’ve had plenty of days where I questioned myself, felt discouraged, or wondered if I was wasting my time. There were definitely moments when I wanted to stop, especially when I wasn’t seeing the results I hoped for right away. But I kept reminding myself that I couldn’t expect things to grow if I gave up before giving myself a real chance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not! I don’t think any journey worth taking is ever completely smooth, and content creation has definitely come with its challenges. One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to balance being a mom while also making time for something that I’m passionate about.
Being a mom means that there is always something that needs your attention. Between taking care of my son, keeping up with everyday responsibilities, and simply trying to be present for my family, content creation can sometimes get pushed to the side. There have definitely been days where I planned to film or edit and then life happened. Sometimes I’ll realize at the end of the day that I never recorded the content I wanted to, or I’ll have a video sitting on my phone that I haven’t had the time to edit.
What I’ve learned, though, is that consistency doesn’t always mean doing everything perfectly. Sometimes consistency means picking yourself back up after you’ve had a busy week and continuing to work toward your goals. I’ve learned to give myself grace while still holding myself accountable.
Being a mom has actually made me more motivated. I want my son to grow up seeing his mom pursue her dreams instead of giving up on them. I’m building something for myself, but I’m also showing him what it looks like to work hard, be creative, and keep going even when things don’t happen overnight.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I share motherhood, lifestyle, beauty, wellness, relationships, and now my journey toward getting married in October. I’ve also been in the same relationship since I was 12 years old, so my relationship and our journey together have naturally become a part of my story and the content I create.
I also create UGC, which has allowed me to work with brands and create authentic, engaging content that feels natural rather than like a traditional advertisement.
I think what I specialize in most is creating relatable content. I don’t want my audience to feel like they’re watching someone who has a perfect, unrealistic life. I want them to see the real moments the fun, the busy days, motherhood, getting ready, trying new products, preparing for my wedding, and everything in between. I think there’s something really powerful about being able to connect with people simply by being yourself.
What sets me apart is that not trying to fit into just one box. I’m a mom, a fiancée, a creator, and a woman who is constantly working toward her goals. I’m still building, learning, and figuring things out as I go. I’m very honest about my journey and I don’t want to portray that I have it all together because I definitely don’t and that’s ok, that’s what some people need to see.
Ultimately, I want people to follow me because they feel like they know me not because everything I post is perfect, but because it’s real. I’m still growing, and I’m excited to bring my audience along with me as I build my career, raise my son, get married, and continue creating a life that I’m proud of.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Yes, I definitely consider myself a risk taker. I’ve always been someone who would rather take a chance and learn from the experience than spend years wondering, “What if I had just tried?”
I’ve gone to school multiple times while figuring out what career path was right for me, and I’ve also started several businesses. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was opening my own daycare. I ran my daycare for three years, which was a huge responsibility because I was not only building a business from the ground up, but I was also responsible for caring for other people’s children and creating a safe, nurturing environment for them.
Starting a business is scary because there’s never a guarantee that it will work. There were so many things I had to learn along the way, how to manage a business, work with families, handle the financial side, stay organized, and continue growing even when things didn’t always go according to plan.
After three years, I ultimately made the difficult decision to close my daycare in July of this year. Even though closing something I had built was emotional, I don’t look at it as a failure. I look at it as another risk I was willing to take and an experience that taught me so much about myself. Sometimes taking a risk means knowing when it’s time to close one chapter so you can make room for another.
That mindset is actually what led me to take content creation more seriously. Once again, I found myself stepping into something unfamiliar and asking myself, “Why not me?” I knew there was a possibility that it might not work out exactly how I imagined, but I also knew that I would never know unless I tried.
I’m a firm believer that God wouldn’t give you an idea if He didn’t trust you with it. For me, faith and risk taking go hand in hand. Sometimes you have to take the leap before you can see the entire path. I’ve learned to trust God, trust myself, and trust that even if something doesn’t work out the way I expected, there is still something valuable I’m meant to learn from the experience.
