Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitty Murray.
Hi Kitty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Kitty Murray
Right out of high school Kitty began singing and dancing at Disneyland with “The Kids of the Kingdom” and spent the next several years performing in major showrooms in Las Vegas, opening for the likes of Bobby Darin, Bob Newhart, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Rich Little, The Smothers Brothers, Clint Holmes, Eddie Rabbit, Charlie Daniels and touring extensively with Engelbert Humperdink and Tom Jones. She has performed all over the world, including three USO Tours–one with the incredible Bob Hope. Kitty has done several television commercials and specials with Carol Burnett, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Steve Allen, Flip Wilson, Don Knotts and even hosted her own television show with guests including Connie Francis, Jack Nicklaus and Tony Orlando. She has also been in three motion pictures, one with Robert Stack and George Wendt, recorded an album for Motown Records and performed in the musical production ” Golden Girls USA” in Branson, Mo.
In Palm Springs she performed the last few years with “The Sensational Jewels” at The Annenberg Theater, Oscar’s, The Purple Room and The Arthur Newman Theater. She also does her own show “Fun With Marilyn”… a funny tribute to Marilyn Monroe.
Recently she produced and starred in the world premier of Aces! a true story about the five Texas beauty queens who became Miss USA. Currently she’s modeling for various designers and featured on Instagram.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Pretty smooth for such a long time. The only challenge I can remember is when I broke my foot on stage while touring with Englebert Humperdinck. I was in a cast, out of the show and sang from the wings. Luckily I healed fast and was able to perform in my hometown at The Greek Theater!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer, actress, producer and a model. I recently finished a second short film where I played the villain. The first short I played a homeless woman and that film was featured at The Woman’s Film Fest in LA.
I’m proud of stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things. I’m proud of all the amazing people I’ve worked with.
I still love performing and being on stage. It’s always so much fun.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My parents deserve all the credit. They met in the Army and had a singing quartet. There was always music and singing in our home and I loved it. My sisters and I would sing for the neighbors and put on shows in our garage.
When I was in high school I auditioned for the “Kids of the Kingdom” at Disneyland, got the part and that was the beginning of my career. My parents supported me 100% and came to most all of my performances. When I was 18 I started performing in Las Vegas and wasn’t allowed in the casinos. I had to go through the kitchens to get on stage!
