Rebecka Larsdotter’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Rebecka Larsdotter shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Rebecka, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up, drink a big cup of water, do yoga , then meditate . After that I pour my first cup of coffee and read wise words and pray, and journal some about the day. After that … Im off to either work on the computer or sing!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A singer, songwriter , and artist, originally from Sweden, Rebecka began her journey in music at a young age, starting w violin at 4 and piano about the same. Growing up in a church, singing and playing became the norm and something she had to figure out in order to serve and contribute. She went to music school for voice and then flew off to the US to pursue songwriting and performing in a different way. Landing in LA, she then spent her years between LA, NYC, Stockholm, and nature escapes, performing, teaching, writing, and recording. She has released 4 albums (the new one came out Nov 13 of this year!) , 2 of them signed to jazz labels, and the others to her independent label Larsdotter Music. She navigates the genres of jazz, pop, r-n-b , and fusion, and has been blessed to work with some of the most talented musicians we have these days.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a happy child who liked to sit in trees, sing, find rocks, and transport fairy creatures to the lakes in the springtime , to not get caught in the summer drought. I dont know if the world ever told me who I had to be though. It suggests it at times, but we can always choose.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. Ive had several times where I almost quit on music. It could be from getting critiqued , not getting into a program I wanted to get into in Copenhagen, money running out and not coming in, and feeling the need to have more security and a “normal” life.
I think we have to battle with that choice every day, but Ive learned that music is who I am in a sense, and that even if it wasnt my career, Id need to keep doing it to be balanced and more whole.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I aim for it to be, yes.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Worrying!!
