Meet Yingka Chou of Master Plans Events & Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yingka Chou.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Prior to graduating college, I was involved with multiple nonprofit and event marketing events that gave me a glimpse of the event world. Back in the early 2000’s, event planning wasn’t a career so the thought of becoming an event planner never occurred to me.

My emphasis in college was on business organizational management and interpersonal relations and I thought marketing was where I wanted to be.

After college, I went from working in the entertainment and creative industry while interning as a wedding apprentice for a couple years to transitioning to hospitality. It was during the peak of my hotel career that I decided to leave and pursue the client service side.

Since leaving the corporate world, I haven’t looked back.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The start of any business is rarely smooth. Mine was no exception as leaving a comfortable constant pay check and no team or support available, was quite daunting. The more people around me thought I was insane for wanting to go into an industry that was unknown and unheard of, the more I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.

One of the biggest struggles of any business owner is work life balance. Not having constant capital, human resources or an office at the time, meant being the jack of all trades and always working at 150% to ensure I survived.

Please tell us about Master Plans Events & Designs, Inc..
Master Plans Events & Designs is a full-service wedding and event planning company. We specialize in coordinating and designing events for any occasion for anyone.

We’re known for creating an event from scratch and tying all the details together and executing the details so the whole process is seamless with as little stress as possible.

From the start until now, my company has transitioned from being a single service to doing full production and still maintaining the highest quality and service to each of our clients.

Master Plans focuses on ensuring quality and upholding the highest expectations for our service. We rarely ever say something isn’t possible and will find any means to make something happen. We specialize in hand holding through each step of the process so that every decision is understood.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Every Sunday that my father was in town, he would blast different kinds of music from around the world, as he traveled internationally quite a bit and was musically inclined.

Waking up to Bossa Nova from Brazil to Sri Lankan music kept things interesting around the house.
