Meet Vince Wainwright of Scale Search Group in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vince Wainwright.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my start from humble beginnings. Grew up with multiple learning disorders and found myself in the Principals office on multiple occasions where I was verbally abused for being, “Stupid” and “Never going to go anywhere” because the “World doesn’t deal with dumb kids”. Then I’d go home and get reprimanded via spankings and being told to “focus” over and over when the simple truth was I didn’t know how to focus and worse of all I didn’t know how to learn. I spent my youth until I was 21, feeling like I was stupid and worthless when it came to academia. I was called a car salesman by multiple teachers because I would stay after class and use sales tactics (acquired from years of not being understood) to beg for extra credit or the re-do of a test. It was a living hell. In high school, I was handsome, played football and had plenty of friends but I always felt like a big dumb idiot.

It wasn’t I joined the Navy that I learned about business by way of starting my own entertainment company while on a WestPac Deployment in the Persian Gulf. I threw a music concert at the brand new House of Blues in 2005. My Captain, now Rear Admiral Jesse Wilson (I love this guy) showed up to the event. And even though the event failed miserably in front of Captain Wilson, my Mother, Godmother and pals I still felt incredible; I tried and failed but I’m so used to failing that I just take it with a smile and forge forward.

Fast forward to 20011 and I was working for my Father in law as a recruiter. A job that doesn’t require math nor was there a demand for any real intelligence but you guessed it… I failed miserably! My father in law took me outside three times over three years and with his heavy smoker’s breath would tell me to find another job and that I should “go be a personal trainer”. I loved it. “Yes, Sir” I would reply and then I’d go up to my desk and cry because I felt so worthless, I was married to his daughter and raising his grandson (my stepson who I raised as my own; the kids a stud) but I knew if I kept at it that I would be the best recruiter on this misunderstanding planet.

Well, I’m still nowhere near the best but I Founded Scale Search Group, an executive search firm to get people that truly care about loving and growing others, jobs. My clients are some of the greatest people I’ve ever met; they’re Mother’s and Father’s, Dog lovers, volunteers and passionate about their environments. I’ve been to music festivals and baptisms and earned best friends from some of my candidates. I had to take charge for people to understand me and I’m grateful that I did.

This world needs more understanding. If you’re misunderstood, then I beg you take charge because you have greatness inside of you. Find your outlet and NEVER let anyone tell you that you should do something else.

Oh, and I will earn my Doctorate in Leadership from the University of La Verne… it’s a loooong way away but you know I will earn it.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Love, understanding, and tenacity.
