Meet Tiana Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Sanchez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tiana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A Gen Xer, born in the 70’s who loves the 80’s and began her career journey in the 90’s at a gourmet fast food restaurant in Southern California. “I don’t know what I want to be,” was my response following a High School aptitude test in 1994. Unbeknownst to me, an opportunity was about to come knocking. Promoted to Store Manager at age 17, while preparing to graduate from HS, I was at the intersection of excitement and uncertainty.

Equipped with the latest technology, a Motorola pager, and pure drive and ambition, I said yes! I was willing to do the work, but I wasn’t fully ready. I was one of the youngest Managers managing day-to-day business operations, overseeing employee development and the acquisition of talent.

My passion for raising the bar in people development spawned through years in management that was honed during an impressive and long-standing career in the Retail, Food and Beverage and Financial industries. A pivotal moment in my career was when I was appointed by the CEO to the Strategic Planning team, sparking my interest in organizational culture and establishing me as a skilled speaker.

I was a young girl growing up in LA who never traveled outside of her neighborhood, who had no idea what she wanted to do after graduation, married at 22, divorced by 25, and no college degree. Today, I have written three books, am an Amazon #1 Bestseller, provide award-winning services, serve the LA community by sitting on the Board of the Black Cooperative Investment Fund and live happily with my husband and two kids.

Many years of experience providing leadership, managing performance, and training and coaching high-performance teams, many bosses and many mistakes later, I have come to realize that leadership and life is multi-dimensional, often complex, with a high degree of human responsibility and human relationships. Let’s inspire together!

Has it been a smooth road?
I was fired from my job in 2011. I was working in the financial industry and was one of many that were let go. Since age 17, I was consistently employed. Unemployment was unfamiliar territory to me. 90 days after the notice, I started my company. I had no idea how to start or run a company. We depleted our savings, ran out of money and wasn’t able to afford the mortgage on the home. We applied for assistance and thankfully we received it. It bought us a little time. I decided to up my skills by attending training, becoming certified and developing alliances in the training industry.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The professional development and training industry is ever-changing. One thing is constant. People are complex. It takes understanding human behavior to be a good leader and employee. With newly skilled workers entering the workforce, employers will need to invest in their employees’ professional development. As AI and AR enter the picture, people will need to “level up” their skills to remain competitive. My sweet spot is working with mid-level managers and department leaders. The younger the leaders the less experience the more likelihood of mistakes. My colleagues and I always say, “we will never be out of a job.”
