Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Bui.
Thomas, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Thomas Bui Lifestyle was started in 2000, I’ve been producing weddings and events for over 17 years. Before starting my company, I was in the pharmaceutical industry and earned an MBA.
It’s been a lot of hard work, long hours, dedication to get where I am today. I am constantly reinventing the business to keep it fresh, stylish and invigorating. As a designer, I am constantly bored with the same look, I love to transform a space and re-create a vision for the clients.
These days, the company has expanded to include corporate events and also home decor for the holidays.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part it’s been a smooth road. In the beginning, it was a struggle trying to balance the income during the slower months. Over time with more events, and charging more, the financial aspect of the business became manageable.
As a sole-proprietor and business owner, one has to take into consideration paying quarterly taxes, business taxes, insurance/liability, and also produce enough income for personal finances and retirement.
There will always be competition in any profession, you’ll lose jobs to your friends and colleagues, however, I feel it’s not personal, it’s the nature of the business. “What doesn’t break you, only make you stronger.”
Please tell us about Thomas Bui Lifestyle.
Thomas Bui Lifestyle specialty lies in weddings, social and corporate events. As an event producer, I custom design every aspect of the event for a cohesive look and style. I work all over the country and across the globe to design something different. My clients are world travelers, Renaissance people that often expects multi-day events, a destination wedding where the guests can enjoy the culture, cuisine and a new environment.
I specialize in designing a custom event from start to finish and all the other events that’s associated with the wedding. The few words or photos clients show me, I am able to visualize and take their vision to a grand scale full-production event.
As a company, I’m most proud that I offer exclusive full-planning and design, I design 15-20 weddings per year so that I have time to dedicate to all my clients to give them the full-attention to detail they require. Since I travel on their behalf, it’s important that I have time to answer their emails in a timely manner and tend to all the vendor questions and be present for all the clients.
