Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Donsker.

Taylor – please kick the story for us. Where does it begin?
My fascination with woodworking developed over a several months guided tour throughout Asia, including centuries old Japanese temples assembled from ancient timbers without glue or metal fasteners. Almost entirely self-taught, my fascination with various materials stems from my belief that one must have an absolute interest and a partial knowledge of everything.

Has it been a smooth road? What’s been the biggest challenge?
Because I am entirely self-funded, growing my business has been slow, yet steady.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Taylor Donsker Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I create pieces of furniture that fetishizes detail, obsesses over craftsmanship, and questions conventional wisdom. Realizing that every material has a grain, a strength and a weakness, an origin and an end, my work seamlessly combines materials with different and oftentimes opposing properties. Exploiting these differences allows me to both highlight the architectural connections that join the differing materials and allow them to become physically and visually stronger than they are on their own. The resulting heightened strength allows for moments of structural defiance such as the appearance of weightlessness or flotation and increased functionality.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA offers everything you could ask for in a city, but demands that you work for it. It is the most conveniently inconvenient city I have ever experienced.
