Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Olivas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stacey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child born and raised in Southern California, I dreamt of one day pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. My passion for journalism was ignited early on at home. At a young age, not only did I love to talk, but I also have countless memories of watching local and national news with my father. Intrigued by the stories that I watched and my curiosity for the world around me, I became inspired and determined to get involved in the media. I wanted to be a reporter like the ones that I saw on television, running around with their mics and cameras chasing the latest and greatest breaking news story.
After graduating high school, I began attending Cal Poly Pomona to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in journalism. In college, I came one step closer to my dreams of becoming a reality when I began interning at NBCUniversal. My time at NBCUniversal was an incredible experience. I was able to work directly with some of the most talented producers, musicians, and esteemed actors. During my time as an intern, I worked at various shows such as Access Hollywood, KNBC Channel 4 News, and Last Call with Carson Daly. I knew that I was being given an opportunity of a lifetime, so I was driven to gain as much hands-on production experience as possible.
As an intern, I was always thrilled when given the opportunity to join field producers on location. Following their lead, I gained incredible insight on how successfully break the latest news stories while interviewing celebrities and public figures. In my last year of college, I was accepted into the prestigious NBCUniversal Page Program. As a Page, I gained hands-on experience and knowledge of the ins and outs of the entertainment industry. I worked at Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and at USA Network. Although I loved production, I knew my heart was still set on reporting.
After completing the Page Program, I pursued hands-on reporting opportunities. I decided the best way to master my reporting skills is to take a risk and become a freelance reporter. Therefore, I began conducting red carpet interviews at premieres and various award shows. While reporting, I was also committed to furthering my education, so I pursued a master’s degree in special education from California State University, Los Angeles. My parents instilled in me the importance of being involved in the community and giving back. I have always been passionate about working with children and individuals with special needs. So, I pursued both careers with the ultimate goal of one day, bringing them together.
When I graduated with my master’s degree, I was given an exciting opportunity to host live after-shows for Maria Menounos’ AfterBuzz TV. As an on-air host, I joined fellow superfans to discuss popular television shows. Currently, I host the 90 Day Fiancé after-show on AfterBuzz TV.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been smooth at all, but it has been an incredible journey. Through the ups and downs, I have learned that you must enjoy and appreciate the process. I can tell you first-hand that when I initially went live on-air without a script or teleprompter, I was terrified. However, throwing myself in front of the camera has been an extraordinary experience, and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Every time that recording light goes on in the studio, I can master my craft and build my overall confidence. I have always been a perfectionist, but in this business, I learned you just have fun, and your audience will too. Your energy and excitement bring joy to viewers. For this reason, I have made that my number one goal in broadcasting. I want to make someone’s day better if that’s with a joke, smile, or sharing their opinions and stories on air.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
While hosting the 90 Day Fiancé after-show, I created and developed a blog on Instagram called @90DayFianceNow. Over the past year, my page has significantly grown to have over 250,000 followers. It has become a place for 90 Day Fiancé fans to share their opinions while catching up on the latest news, memes, and related content. 90 Day Fiancé cast members are also very active on my blog and will engage with fans directly.
Recently, I discovered the impact @90DayFianceNow has had on the world. 90 Day Fiancé is a series about individuals traveling to different countries in hopes of living “happily ever after” with their significant other.
Through my blog, people can learn about different cultures from around the world and share about their own. As a community, we can shine a light and bring awareness to present-day social justice issues occurring in society. My goal of @90DayFianceNow is to become a place for people to come together not only as fans but also as community of support that will bring about unity and positive changes in the world. I want to use my blog to inform society and break down barriers that are dividing humanity. By creating awareness, I will be able to encourage diversity in the media and educate my viewers.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I strongly believe my journey and the path that I have taken has all happened for a reason and because of God. Looking back at my past experiences and individuals that I met along the way, I have learned something that has shaped me into whom I’ve become today. I do not believe in luck, but I do believe in order to grow as an individual and become successful you have to take risks. You have to put yourself in uncomfortable places to grow and learn. I have failed numerous times along the way, but I never gave up. I strongly believe that if you don’t try, you are ultimately failing yourself. In order for others to believe in you, you have to believe in yourself first. Believing in yourself and taking risks is the key to building confidence and living the life you have always dreamed of.
